More than meets the eye?

I saw Transformers 2 this weekend. A lot of reviewers didn't like it (Tomatometer reading: 21%). I don't get what they're on about! I see comments like "spectacle without a decent narrative or interesting characters soon becomes tedious" (Evan Williams - The Australian) and think they've completely missed the point. When I was standing in line for my Whoppers and Unreasonably Huge Diet Pepsi I wasn't thinking, "OH BOY! I hope I get to see some character development!!!". No siree. I was thinking, "I hope the explosions melt my face off!"

Filmlink (another Australian site) says "bad storytelling is bad storytelling, no matter how many explosions, robots and hot chicks you have on screen". I think that attempting to use 'storytelling' to justify the explosions, robots and hot chicks would be a waste of my time and ticket money.

Paul French for FHM described the movie well, "It’s like watching a blender for two hours while someone shouts at you. And then the last half an hour is the same, except it’s more like having your head strapped to a washing machine while you watch a blender and someone shouts at you. And you really need to piss. Still, wicked fun."

That's exactly the reason I bought my movie ticket and Unreasonably Huge Diet Pepsi!!! Don't dilute my enjoyment of expensive CGI and over the top explosions by making me think about unnecessary things like plot!

Edit: I made the Deceptacon icon myself!
