So this past weekend was a really good one. For a moment, I did not think it would have went well. You see, my mother had planned on coming here to spend the weekend with me but the weather forecast did not look so well. Therefore, if the weather would have been really bad she would not have come and my feelings would have been hurt since I really looked forward to spending some time with her. Well, things prevailed and to make sure she would make it, she just left a whole lot earlier than she anticipated to make sure she would beat the bad weather. Granted, I had to wake up REALLY early on a Saturday morning but it was worth it since my mom was here! I cooked her some breakfast and we just sat down to have some general conversation.
She gave me the gift my father sent with her which we some deflated balloons and a card with $50 inside. I must say, it kinda shocked me which made me even more grateful. I called him to have to leave him a voicemail telling him Thank You. To make things better, she also gave me $50. After sitting around the house most of the morning, we went to the mall. I spent the majority of the $100 my parents gave me within an hour going to Express Men and Dillard’s but I bought some really cute shirts! I can’t wait to wear them! I even helped my mom pick out a pair of shoes which were really cute! We had a good time helping one another pick out really good looking things! She shocked me with her taste, lol. After lally-gagging for a while in the mall, we headed to the movie theater although it was like an hour before our feature.
And I must say, I’m glad we went early! The black folks came out to see Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Family Reunion! Thank goodness I bought the tickets online because just about every feature was sold out! I had to wait in the line for popcorn forever and got our popcorn rushing since my mother said the movie started only to find that an usher sent my mother to the wrong auditorium! All we could do was laugh. The movie ended up being excellent! It was like 10 times funnier and better than Diary of a Mad Black Woman! Tyler Perry is a fool and knows how to make money! Madea had me falling out of my seat laughing and I left very happy I shared such a great moment with my mother. I found out yesterday it made $30.2 million over the weekend to be #1 at the box office which did not shock me at all! Go Tyler Perry!
The rest of the weekend went very well. My mother and I went eat out Saturday night, went to church Sunday morning and to IHOP after church. I let her know how I really enjoyed her coming and she was glad she came. I really love it when she is away from home and away from the “stressful” surroundings around her at home, i.e. my brother. She is so much pleasant when she is not at home, and we don’t argue at all like we do when I am home. It is so weird how we get along so well when we are not at home! That’s why I love spending time with her AWAY from home. I know how stressed she is at home and am very happy to get her away from all that. She is too young to be so stressed, and she deserves the best. I worry about her so much when she is at home having to deal with my hard-headed brother. I don’t know what it will take for his immature butt to grow up.
Well, today is Mardi Gras and I am at home not celebrating it at all. I was in New Orleans for Mardi Gras for the past 4 years and it just does not seem right not being there this year. Also, considering what happened with the hurricane and all, I just was not in the Mardi Gras mood. Another thing that changed my perspective is med school. I figured I might as well take the couple days we had off to catch up on my school work and get a few extra hours of sleep in. I must say, I have really been enjoying doing so too! When I go back to class tomorrow, I will be caught up with my work and will be able to start studying for the upcoming exam! I think I have written enough for now. Until next time . . .
