RP Moment | 22nd August | Getting Older
It was her birthday. That's what David had told her when she woke up this morning. In her sleepy haze, she informed him he was an idiot and tried to go back to sleep. Thankfully, for her, he never did listen and he carried on babbling about how she had forced him to celebrate his birthday so he was returning the favour.
After breakfast, her sister dragged her shopping to get new clothes. Though Alex didn't actually need new clothes - she had more than enough to keep the whole city dressed - her sister felt more was always better. Spending time with Alice is like taking a cold shower. She was bubbly, bouncy and quick on her toes to find a bargain. You never know what hit you when she finally leaves, especially if all you wanted was to sit with a nice cup of coffee and cry about getting old. But Alice was genuinely trying to treat her, so she let her drag her everywhere.
The biggest smile of the day was brought out by Ellie. Ellie was the only one who sang Happy Birthday to her. Some of the words were just vowel sounds, but the tune was there. Of course, she also sang Happy Birthday to Dada but it had only made Alex laugh harder.
That was the best gift she had been given. That, and the dinner out with her family. It was simple, but it worked. If only she hadn't been spending most of the day thinking about her age and trying to convince herself that it was only a number...
