Cori Rubirosa checked her cell phone, then sighed and set her cafeteria tray down. So much for a night out after her shift ended. Oh, well. It happened. She was a doctor and he was a cop...their schedules didn't exactly make for great planning.

Still, she was a bit disappointed. At least everything was going okay on her shift at the ER. Well. As okay as you got for an emergency room shift. She glanced over at the only other person at the table. Katie, if she remembered correctly. A relative of someone Connie knew...Cori smiled and waved a bit, despite the fact that Katie had earphones in.

Katie looked over and waved back. Wanting to be social, and hating to be rude, she took out the earphones and smiled.

"That's good." Katie nodded. "What shift you working?"

"Plain old day shift," Cori said. "I'm lucky, I know..." She didn't seem too enthused, though.

"It'd be more exciting if my plans for tonight hadn't fallen through," Cori admitted.

"Sorry to hear that. Big plans, huh?" Katie asked.

"Not that big," Cori shrugged. "Just meeting someone...but he had to cancel."

Katie gave her a look of sympathy. "Maybe you could change your plans to sitting in with ice cream and wine?" Katie offered. It was what she liked to do when her plans went in the wrong direction.

Cori smiled a bit. "Maybe. He's supposed to call later, so...who knows." She didn't immediately elaborate on who 'he' was.

"I hope your evening can be salvaged." Katie smiled. She missed dating sometimes, but really she was relieved that her man couldn't cancel on her. Eventually he had to go home.
