RP Log | Mulrooney Still Causing Trouble
*ding! 11th floor! Major Case!*
Det. Alex Eames: *at her desk, working on a new case, just looking up information mostly*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *gets off the elevator, holding her briefcase in one hand, text messaging with the other*
Det. Alex Eames: *tappity tap at the laptop, still trying to focus on the new case and not think about the old one, yet failing*
Det. Bobby Goren: *heading up behind Connie* Hey, Rubirosa. *catches up with her her*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: Goren. *is relieved to see him before Alex, glances toward the bullpen, then stays where she is with him, near the elevator bank*
Det. Bobby Goren: *raised brow, headtilt* Is something wrong?
ADA Connie Rubirosa: I just came from a pretrial motion hearing with Mulrooney's lawyer.
Det. Bobby Goren: *worried look, takes a step back, fidgeting, and then looks at her* Oh?
ADA Connie Rubirosa: Mulrooney's claiming that Gabrielle Roth does exist, that she's the killer and that you co-erced him into confessing that he was her.
Det. Bobby Goren: *frowns* Really?
Det. Bobby Goren: ...that's interesting. *looks over to where his desk is, knowing Alex is there*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: Worse, the judge is giving credence to the claim. She's allowing them until tomorrow at noon to produce evidence of Roth's existence.
Det. Bobby Goren: Well, I highly doubt they'll find anything.
ADA Connie Rubirosa: I don't, either, but it's the principle. We've been ordered to get on proving that she's fake. Apparently what we have now isn't good enough. *shakes her head*
Det. Bobby Goren: Hm... *looks at Eames* Does Eames know that?
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *shakes her head* I just got here...I was hoping to run into you first...
Det. Bobby Goren: You want me to tell her? *raised brow*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *slight glare* I'll do it. It'd just be nice if you were there.
Det. Bobby Goren: *taken back* Uh, sure. This way then. *leads the way*
Det. Bobby Goren: *reaches their desks* Eames...?
Det. Alex Eames: *looks up from her computer* What is it?
ADA Connie Rubirosa: Hey...*quieter, coming around from the other side of Goren*
Det. Alex Eames: Hey. *looks at them both and frowns*
Det. Alex Eames: *almost suspicious*
Det. Bobby Goren: *sits down at his desk*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: There was a pre-trial motion hearing today.
Det. Alex Eames: *raised brow, worried look* Oh?
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *nods* Mulrooney's lawyer, Ted Fairwell, moved to have Gabrielle Roth's clothes suppressed....because Mulrooney is claiming that Roth exists, therefore had an expectation of privacy.
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *pauses, then goes on* He's claiming that Goren co-erced him into saying he was Roth, but that she does exist and he was protecting her.
Det. Alex Eames: He's claiming she--what?
ADA Connie Rubirosa: The judge gave them till noon tomorrow to produce evidence of her existence.
Det. Alex Eames: *takes a moment to let that sink in* Um, *not looking all that happy with this* Let me get this straight, he's saying she's real... when he knows damn well she's not, and now everyone has to waste time looking for -her-?
ADA Connie Rubirosa: It'll all come to nothing tomorrow in court.
Det. Alex Eames: *annoyed* So why bother?
Det. Alex Eames: *an edge to her voice that's very 'i'm close to growling'*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: The judge had to give them a shot to prove it. Once they don't, they'll be in hot water with her and things'll probably be in our favor the rest of the trial. Fairwell knows it's all for nothing. He told me after that he tried to get the 730 exam, but Mulrooney refused.
Det. Alex Eames: *deep aggravated sigh* Surely they wouldn't go forward with it at all if they didn't think it was worth the shot?
Det. Alex Eames: This is ridiculous.
ADA Connie Rubirosa: Fairwell is grasping at straws. He's got nothing for his case and Mulrooney won't let him take a deal or go with a psych defense.
Det. Alex Eames: *frown that turns into a bit of a scowl- aimed at Mulrooney, but he's not there, so it ends up in Goren's direction*
Det. Bobby Goren: Uh... *winces* We also need to find more evidence that she is him.
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *nods*
Det. Alex Eames: *glare* What?
Det. Bobby Goren: At the very least, more evidence that she doesn't exist...
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *nods again*
Det. Alex Eames: You're kidding?
Det. Bobby Goren: ...no *as if he would ever kid!*
Det. Bobby Goren: We have 24 hours as well? *to Connie*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: Same amount of time. Honestly, I-wouldn't worry all that much about it.
ADA Connie Rubirosa: There's no way in hell they can prove she exists.
Det. Alex Eames: ...that's not really the point.
ADA Connie Rubirosa: ...I know.
Det. Alex Eames: *frowning, looking back at her computer*
Det. Alex Eames: *annoyed!face of doom*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *bites her lip, worried, glances at Goren*
Det. Bobby Goren: *worried glance at Connie* ...Eames? *not sure how to get her to not look so angry* Mulrooney is obviously worried... it's getting to him. *looks back at Connie*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *nods, looking at Goren, then back at Alex* He's doing this to try to get to you. It's smoke and mirrors.
Det. Alex Eames: *twists her mouth, uncomortable* And the trial hasn't even started... what's next?
ADA Connie Rubirosa: ...the most that Ted Fairwell can do is try to cast doubt on your credibility. We'll redirect, remind the jury of what a great cop you are and it'll be fine. Trust me, they're going to want to believe a cop with a clean record over a rogue ADA.
Det. Bobby Goren: *nods* He's not getting away with anything, at the most he's just making himself look worse.
Det. Alex Eames: *sighs, tired and annoyed*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: You know we're not going to let him get away with it, Alex.
Det. Alex Eames: *quiet, nods* ...I know.
Det. Bobby Goren: *sad face*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: You've got Major Case behind you and the full weight of the DA's office. Jack wants him for this, bad.
Det. Bobby Goren: I can imagine McCoy hit the roof when he first heard.
ADA Connie Rubirosa: He did.
ADA Connie Rubirosa: He's still kicking himself for rehiring Mulrooney.
Det. Bobby Goren: He must have had a reason for rehiring him...
ADA Connie Rubirosa: We're shortstaffed and Kevin had worked for the office before, had a good record.
Det. Bobby Goren: *nods* Of course. It's a shame he really did blow his second, and last, chance
Det. Alex Eames: *listening to them, tight-faced, difficult to read*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *to Goren* He didn't think he was blowing it. He's delusional.
Det. Bobby Goren: No, he really seems to believe he had a right to do all of this. He was just after revenge.
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *to Alex* once he starts talking about how everyone's out to get him, the jury will know. And we'll make sure he does.
Det. Alex Eames: *slow nod* I hope you're right.
ADA Connie Rubirosa: We are.
Det. Alex Eames: *half smile, unsure if she can muster up the same confidence they seem to have* Thanks.
Det. Bobby Goren: *nods, knowing she's angry and not wanting to bring up, but doesn't trust himself not to say it because she'll yell at him again so he keeps his mouth shut*
Det. Bobby Goren: *opts for another approach* We need to do another search for "Gabrielle Roth" *he did the action for inverted commas*
Det. Alex Eames: *raised brow*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *listening*
Det. Alex Eames: You and I both know that we're not going to find anything, she doesn't exist. Unless it's written somewhere on a piece of paper that says 'Oh, I don't exist', we're screwed. Lack of evidence is evidence itself... unless you're suggesting a miracle...
ADA Connie Rubirosa: They have the greater burden in proving she does exist.
Det. Alex Eames: Right. I say we let them do the legwork.
Det. Alex Eames: *gestures to Connie and looks at Goren with a 'See?'*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *nods*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: Unless you want to track down anyone who knew Mulrooney to dress up like that...
Det. Bobby Goren: Something tells me that was something he kept to himself... *thoughtful*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: ...did you DNA test the clothes?
Det. Bobby Goren: *looks around his desk, like, I know I have the answer to that somewhere*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: Only his DNA would be on it...
ADA Connie Rubirosa: His sweat, his skin cells, his hair follicles, his...*stops at that*
Det. Alex Eames: *looks up at her*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: ...whatever else.
Det. Alex Eames: *knew what she'd meant, a look on her face of disgust and discomfort*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *looks to Goren because OMGAWKWARD*
Det. Bobby Goren: *finds the lab report, saving the day* *flicks through it and then has an almost childish reaction* Yes! A sample tested positive for his DNA... and they found hair, which was his. *looks at Eames * That's all they found.
ADA Connie Rubirosa: Then we can use that to back up our claims.
Det. Alex Eames: Great. Miracle found.
Det. Alex Eames: *sarcastic, flat*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *sigh*
Det. Alex Eames: *sighs, too, pinching the bridge of her nose* At least we got something better than what they have...
Det. Bobby Goren: Right. *shows the report to Connie*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *takes it* I'm going to need to make a copy of this.
Det. Bobby Goren: I can do that for you now, if you want.
ADA Connie Rubirosa: ...sure. *figures he has a reason for wanting to copy it for her*
Det. Bobby Goren: *takes it and goes to copy it*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: Fairwell knows they don't have anything, you know.
Det. Alex Eames: Really?
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *nods*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: All he can do is what Mulrooney wants and even then, only if it's legal...
Det. Alex Eames: See that's the thing, he must have a reason for doing this, he must think he can win...
ADA Connie Rubirosa: Alex, he's crazy. Of course he thinks he can win. He also thinks he deserves to be in line for D.A. and that everything wrong that's ever happened to him in his life is someone else's fault.
Det. Alex Eames: Yeah, I know. He blames me for all his shortcomings in life. *sighs* He's definitely crazy...
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *nods*
Det. Alex Eames: *thinking about how she said he was trying to get to her still* *slow nod* *swiftly changes the subject* How's Cutter?
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *laughs* Adorable?
Det. Alex Eames: Is that just today?
ADA Connie Rubirosa: Every day.
Det. Alex Eames: *smiles* That's good... then.
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *smirk*
Det. Alex Eames: I assume he's fine beyond adorable?
ADA Connie Rubirosa: Yeah, he's his usual self.
Det. Alex Eames: *nods*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *waits for Bobby to bring the papers*
Det. Alex Eames: *figures it's best to stay quiet, looks back at her computer*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *checks her texts*
Det. Bobby Goren: *after arguing with the copier, comes back with a copy for Connie, waits for her to finish on her phone before he approaches her*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *finishes, looks up* Hey. Thanks.
Det. Bobby Goren: Here's hoping it's enough.
Det. Alex Eames: *looks over*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *small smile* I'm sure it will be. Thanks. *takes it*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *looks it over*
Det. Alex Eames: *smiles, too* *watching*
Det. Bobby Goren: *nods*
Det. Bobby Goren: We'll look into finding anyone who may have seen him as... Roth. But it could be a long shot.
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *nods* Thanks.
Det. Bobby Goren: *nods, too*
Det. Alex Eames: Thank you. *she means that in every way, not just for coming to tell her about what happened at trial, but for being her friend and all* *and putting up with her*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *nods* Of course. *pats her arm when she gets up*
Det. Alex Eames: *smiles and nods*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: I'll keep you up to date.
Det. Alex Eames: Thanks. I appreciate that. *nods*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *nods*
Det. Bobby Goren: *towers over his desk, not sitting down*
ADA Connie Rubirosa: *goes to leave*
