"Romani eunt domum? Romans they to the house to go?!" "It says, 'Romans go home!'" "No it doesn't!"

If you ever want to see 3rd-country nationals panic while they're working at a FOB PX, try to use a coupon. Sheesh, if I'd known the trouble it caused, I'd never have bothered. OK, so the 2 cashiers at their respective registers are from Africa (judging by their accents), and they've apparently never seen or heard of a coupon. I had one that I tore off the box tab from Stridex pads for $1.00 off my next purchase. Once I explained the concept of a coupon to them, the next trouble that arose was that the two zeros were superscripted and there was no decimal point, so it looked like it said "$100 off". When I explained to them that it was only one dollar off, and they weren't paying me 90-something dollars to take the Stridex pads, they still didn't seem to understand the concept of a coupon. They tried to point to a little part of the box that said "25% more pads- free bonus!" and say this was what the $1.00 off was talking about. "No," I explained, "that's an entirely different entity. This here is a coupon that is intended not to be noticed until you get home and open your purchase. Look, this box has one too." I opened the new box I was buying and showed it to them. Amazement! There ensued much debating between them in some language I could not recognize, and the manager came up and told them just to take the damned thing and scan it. Well, to create even more confusion, the re-re that wrote the barcode on the coupon apparently thought that it said "$100 off" too. More debating in their native tongue. Finally the manager intervened again and told them to just take a dollar off my total manually. All of this took between 10 and 15 minutes, and a decently long line had formed behind me. Sheesh.

I finally got my security clearance submitted. I know it's going to be kicked back again, though, b/c every time I tried to get my selective service number, the system at www.sss.gov was down. Ugh. At least it'll give me another 60 days once it's kicked back. :)

I need to start doing cardio more often. I think after my TOC/radio guard shift tonight I'll do some cardio and some abs, both of which I've been neglecting for the past several months.
