OK, still no word on my leave dates yet. This is frustrating, but everyone should be somewhat used to this sort of thing from the Army by now. Well, if they're not accustomed to it, they should be at least expecting it. ;(
We did 2 missions over the past week that took us WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY out of our AO (Area of Operations), both of which were supporting the IA (Iraqi Army). I have pictures from the first one, in which I was dismounted as we walked through a fairly large town. Mostly it's pictures of the nastiness in which these people live, although there are a few more positive pictures too.
I couldn't get any pictures from the second one, since I was in the gun turret the whole time. We drove up and town some road in the middle of nowhere going to and from some town and a place where some other trucks had set up a position. We were SUPPOSED to be sitting on some other FOB waiting to act as QRF, but we ended up driving up and down that road instead. It was retarded. There was plenty of mirth on the radios, though. When the commander of the battalion we're attached to got some of his PSD's (Personal Security Detachment) stuck in some mud, we all made fun of them on our nets (being careful to stay off of theirs). Also, our LT had a LOT of people fooled when he said that we were about 2km from the Iranian border, and that the truck we could see in the distance was actually in Iran. It's funny, yet sad, that he fooled so many people, when A) it was obvious from his voice that he was kidding, and B) we never even crossed the Tigris, and were therefore HUNDREDS of MILES from the border.
I got to go to church and Bible study yesterday for the first time in like a month, and I enjoyed both thoroughly. The Bible Study group has picked up a lot of members lately; the past 2 times I was there we had about 10 (give or take), whereas the first several months we never had more than 3. The chaplain has this interesting DVD series we've been watching in which this man (can't remember his name) is taking some people on tours of different ancient cities that Jesus preached in, as well as some that Paul and the other apostles visited in the book of Acts. It's incredibly interesting to see the context a lot of Bible quotes were spoken in.
I miss everybody, and I look forward to seeing you all in June!
