Lets play along shall we. I'll give you my last shift by the numbers....with a few details tossed in. No, this is not a HIPPA violation. I'm just giving you general, non identifiable statistics, nothing wrong with that. And other
Number of patients: 13-16, I think.
Hours with the trainee: 19.5 (was only supposed to be 16....he's gonna be sore...cuz he final got away at about 12:45 am and he started a 24 hour shift at 7am)
Number of times I called an ALS unit (City Paramedics): 2 We only do this when we feel its too serious for us to handle
Number of times ALS actually took the patient: 0
Number of times this made me curse out loud: Only once...the other I was cool with
Number of times I called the police to place someone in protective custody: 1
Number of times I saw the police: 2 Once for the protective custody. Another when they called us for a seperate OD.
Number of times they placed someone in protective custody: 1 And we needed to sell it to them a little.
Number of people who were barely awake, wanted me to leave, had pin-prink pupils, BP of 190s/crap, resps 40/min: 1
Number of people who couldn't account for 90 hydrocodone pills or 60 methadone pills: 1
Yeah, those last few were the same patient....and we called ALS for that one too...but I was cool with them not taking her
Number of Over Doses I saw: 2 total
Number of hysterical, crazy sons who were "very concerned about the ambulance ride" before we even got there: 1
Number of hysterical, crazy sons who literally wouldn't let us touch the his mother: 1
Number of hysterical, crazy sons who physically broke part of our ambulance( by accident): 1
Number of hysterical, crazy sons who had an uber creepy house: 1
Number of hysterical, crazy sons who I feel sorry for: 1. Annoying as he was, he's desperately trying to get control of a situation that sucks and that he has no control over and he will likely lose his mother before her next birthday
Number of non specific abdominal pain: 3-4
Highest BP I saw: 260/112 This is dangerously high...like really.
Highest Resps: 40....which is 2.5-3 times what it should be
Highest Blood Sugar: 408 mg/dl Normal is 70-110
Number of patients we went to the ER lights and sirens with: 1...she was in serious respiratory distress and we were very close to the hospital. Going 'hot' was a first for me.
Number of patients whose injury I treated will eventually kill them: 1 That patient will never recover from that injury. Kinda sucked to be there, she fell and will never recover.
Number of hospitals I went to: 4 plus nursing homes and clinics
Number of times I did something silly that twinged my back: 1 for sure, maybe two
Number of sodas I drank:...um, alot. I grab one at almost every hospital.
Number of hours of sleep druing the 24 hour shift: 25-35 minutes. Yeah, that kind of hurt.
Okay, thats all for today. I'm kinda tired of the list.
