If...
If the bullet would have struck over more would I still be alive now? In my job there can be so many If's you can drive yourself insane. If we would have arrived a few seconds sooner could we of stopped someone from being killed? If we had just found more evidence would the suspect still have gotten away with it? If I remembered my vest more would I be safer really? You try not to dwell on the If's in life because there's so much more to life then dwelling on your past. It can become hard and it's not always easy to keep work and your personal life separate because just sometimes a case comes up that strikes close to your heart.
Though it's not just the cop in me that has a lot of of If's haunting him, but the boy that I was. He struggles inside at times with his own guilt. If I had been faster would my best friend still be here today? Would he of gotten home safely? If I had just been able to stand long enough to take that last bullet, where would we both be today? Would I have been the one to die? Would he have tried getting me to a hospital only to have me die after ten hours of waiting and hoping? Would he be happy now, about to get married? Things I'll never know because I wasn't fast enough, and I wasn't able to stay standing for that last bullet.
