Fragile.
Ed and Nina were on a case. Blood in a crib and a missing baby. Ed always came off as a tough guy that no one could seem to get through. Though when he got a call and saw a tiny hand peeking out of the black plastic garbage bag that same anger he always felt at seeing someone so young and fragile, someone who couldn't defend themselves taken away like that.
He wasn't one of those guys who always said he wanted kids, he still never gave it thought. Maybe it's because he knew someone else was supposed to be taking care of these little lives and they tossed them away. He wasn't sure what pissed him off more, that someone else took them away or that it was the parents that did it. He was a force to be wreckoned with in the face of a parent that snuffed out a child's life. He was relentless in getting the case together, gathering the evidence and motive so they rotted in jail.
Ed knew why he didn't want kids really, he was afraid of letting them down. Of breaking them when a night came he might never come home again.
