I am mostly enjoying making this dress, even with the "oops" I created and fixed just now. It's really so pretty and almost elegant. I can't wait for it to be done so I can see her in it!
And, may I add I am very proud of myself for noting the usual shortcuts one would when sewing for oneself. I my head this dress is for a very special client so I have to do it just right... :> So far that's working for me.
Just have to decide what finish I want to use on the armhole since I am not using a set-in sleeve.
While the costume trick of pulling the back pieces inside right after sewing the neckline and armhole /would/ work, it would also stress the fabric and I don't want to pass it through the shoulder as it's very narrow. I could face it and then sew the facing by hand to the lining; I could use the pretty piping I am using on the bodice on the armhole to finish it but I think that would irritate the underarm eventually or I can handsew the lining to the bodice. Decisions, decisions!
Ohhh... black bias the armhole and stitch it to the lining inside... I may have it solved!
