[His handwriting is nearly imperceptibly shaky.]
You wouldn't happen to know anything about a supernatural illness hitting the city, would you?
I need to
I need to know if there's anything I can do for someone that's been infected with it. Symptoms are [... insert here exact symptoms she's experienced. :|]

I'll look into it right now, and I'll call you as soon as I find something out.

I'd appreciate it. I don't want to put any pressure on you, but she
She doesn't look good and the doctors couldn't do anything.

He isn't 100%, but he's got a pretty damn good idea.
When Josef answers, he won't bother with Heys or small talk or anything else. He cuts to the chase. He's pissed off by the whole concept to begin with, and concerned about his own family. They weren't all in the Crowbar when he left, and Lena and Lucky don't live there anymore.]
Everyone that's afflicted with something be it illness or monster or vision, they're denying or repressing or trivializing something.
It's all about subconscious shit as far as I can tell, and I guess this is the Rift's fucked up version of trying to be everyone's God damned therapist.
[There's only the slightest of pauses, but this part is important too, but he says it in a low, steady voice, erasing all the intensity and ticked off ness that had been in it before.]
Josef.
If they don't face whatever it is, it kills them.

He's grateful there aren't small pleasantries. Josef doesn't have the big family Sonny's had. His family is of one, but it's just as important.
So in that sense, they understand each other very well.]
... Jesus fuck, this goddamn city.
[Josef swallows hard past the emotion that crashes into him, and he pinches the bridge of his nose before he lets himself answer.]
Okay. I got it.
Thanks, Sonny. I owe you one.

[There's a slight pause because he knows.
It's serious.]
You're welcome.
Having the answers is going to make all the difference. [Which is Sonny's way of being reassuring without outwardly, obviously being reassuring before he turns off the phone.]

Thankfully, it does and she stops being sick almost immediately.
She also passes out and is sleeping very, very heavily. That's the only reason Josef allows himself to leave her side--after staying vigilant the whole night in case she wakes up, to call Sonny and thank him personally.]
It worked. It was touch and go there for a minute, but it worked.
Thanks again, man. If there's anything I can do...

He doesn't know Josef well, but he knows it's family that Josef was trying to save. Isn't that something?
It's something that living to today, that because John snapped him out of his mind, he was able to help. He's relieved Josef called and that it worked.]
Good. I'm glad to hear it.
[And he really is.]
Happy I could help. Loss is a little too fucking common in this city. Pisses me off.
[Yeah, that's why you help people, Sonny, because the city pisses you off.
He rubs the back of his neck and shakes his head, stifling some feeling in his chest that's not-- not entirely bad for once.]
I'll let you know... if there's anything.
