So, finally went through the mail that came for me while I was out gallivanting.
I got a $400 check from the old land lady of nearly two years ago. Finally my pet deposit from Point B returned. Well... Most of it. My pet deposit was $500. According to her $100, ($50 per cat), has always been non-refundable. Originally true, but we negotiated that $100 not refundable bit when I moved in. (I have a thing about non-refundable deposits. That's not a deposit, that's a fee. A $500 deposit, with $100s non-refundable is actually a $400 deposit and $100 fee. According to me at least.) Anyway, she agreed to return the full amount if there were no fleas. Apparently she changed her mind about that. (I doubt there were fleas, and even if there were I don't think over a year and a half after my cats vacated the fleas could be attributed to them.) But, whatever. It's not worth arguing over. Glad now I never got around to replacing the window blind Mr. Bitey McBites-a-Lot damaged though. And that carpet stain I feel less bad about... Those things should even it back out some.
I also got a letter from IQ Credit Union in Vancouver. I have an account there. It has a decent bit of money in it if I recall correctly. Well, in less than a month they're going to give that money to the government. Unless I sign and send back a form to them claiming continued ownership of said money. This kinda pisses me off. I mean, it's nice they sent that form option and all, but I have one month to return it. Is it just me or is that not giving folks much of a window of "don't-give-my-money-to-the-government!" opportunity? What if my vacation was longer? Or I was away an extended period for some other reason? As it is, if that letter and form had arrived right before I left, when I was scrambling about not paying attention to things, I might not have read it in time. And, umm... What about a phone call? Maybe they only have the obsolete land line, but I'm pretty sure they have the cell number too.
Now though, what really pisses me off is how my account has gone into inactive status. It is true that I have not put money into the account in years, or taken money out in years, or really done anything with said credit union in years. However, about a year ago they started calling me, concerned about my inactivity. I assured them I was still around, and still wanted my money. Shortly there after, when I was down in Vancouver I went to the credit union in person to make sure all was dandy. The woman assured me that my account was back on active status and I should be fine for a few more years. Apparently not so.
Maybe I should close that account next time I'm down in Vancouver. I am running dangerously dry on school funds... I think there's enough to cover one semester there. Maybe two, but that's probably being optimistic.
