Apparently it has been a little over eighty weeks since I have updated my lj. That's a long ass time. It's not that I haven't had anything happen, to the contrary I've been the busiest I've ever been.
About forty-eight weeks ago I started my tattoo apprenticeship. I have since "graduated" and have been tattooing the general public for the past six months. I worked very hard and accelerated my apprenticeship to a pretty much unheard of short period. I absolutely love tattooing and don't have many regrets committing to the job for six days a week for the past year. I'm going to be finally taking a second day off during our slow winter and will hopefully be able to apply myself to finish some non-tattoo related artwork.
It's incredible because I feel like I've realized a life long dream at last. I get paid to draw and it's all I do all day. I've been very prolific filling tons a sketchbooks and loose papers with sketches and drawings (not to mention people's hides). It's been amazing to me how much better of an illustrator I've become in the past year. It's all from just working on art so much, and working on things for clients that I would never draw left to my own devices and thoughts. I'm brimming with confidence and I'm exhilarated!
It's great working along side talented artists on a daily basis. I learn and steal from them all the time. They are inspiration and competition, which are two undisputed driving forces for creativity.
I'd like to take all this confidence and start tackling some painting. I feel like I'm ready in my life and confident enough to have an art show.
I hired my friend Jim to build a kick ass website for me to display an online portfolio. Should be up and running soon so I can start sharing this stuff.
