I'm on my 3rd day off of 3 and then I go back to work. The past couple of days I have gotten some good art time in, something that hasn't happened in a while. Here is one of my creations:

I have another one of a waterfall that I am about 3/4 done with right now. I think I'll head out for coffee and drawing after this.

So, back to what has been going on this year. Well, I'm not at Rampart Division anymore. I made it off probation in February and have now transferred to Foothill Division, which is Pacoima, Arleta, Sunland and Sun Valley. I am having a great time at work. I've gotten guns, robbers, gotten in smallish fights, chased people, had rocks thrown at me, sprayed someone with pepper-spray, and gotten in a crazy, high-speed vehicle pursuit (remind me never to do _that_ again). I have a regular partner who is my classmate. We have a lot of fun and work hard to catch lots of bad guys. I am really enjoying work. I testified in a trial (as opposed to a preliminary hearing) for the first time last week. It went back and forth between the DA and the defense attorney for a while. It was actually much more like my TV image of a trial than I figured it would be. There were blow-ups of photographs, diagrams, and a map of the crime scene complete with labels and pertinent areas marked in red. Work has been good.

At home, I have my apartment pretty well straightened up.

I have been reading yet another Heinlein novel (my 3rd this year), Number of the Beast. So far, so good. A couple months ago I bought the entire series of Oz books on ebay and am working my way through them. They are fantastic. I am excited to see The Golden Compass come out as a movie, which is a very imaginative and philosophically deep teen fantasy book. I highly recommend the series if you have not read it yet. The Golden Compass has all the neglect-everything-tell-you're-done-ness of Harry Potter but is more than just a great read. Speaking of which, I thought Rowling did a great job on the final book. She really pulled through without sabotaging the end of the series.
