Character's Canon Abilities:
Unlike her two best friends, Kairi is not familiar with combat. Most of her special abilities lie within how her heart is born of pure Light, with absolutely no Darkness in it. Called a Princess of Light within her canon, this grants her special powers that are exclusive to the seven special maidens that share the title. Most notable is that even after losing her heart, instead of turning into a Heartless, Kairi entered a suspended animation state that kept her body untouched while her heart found a safe place in Sora's. Although it won't apply to the Port, alongside the other princesses, she has the ability to unlock the Final Keyhole to Kingdom Hearts. And to an extent, as the other princesses can sense and warn Sora about impending Darkness (like the others, perhaps even hold it back for a while if not completely,) she can probably sense it too. Her pure heart makes her immune to any of its effects, such as safely passing through the Corridors of Darkness without harm.
When Kairi was young, Aqua saved her from Unversed. In her panic, she had held on to the older girl's own Keyblade, and the power was passed on to her unknowingly. Almost eleven years after that, Riku handed her Destiny's Embrace, a Keyblade originally wielded by Aqua formed from the memories of the flowers Kairi herself gave to the Keyblade Master. Kairi had leaped into the fray wielding it without hesitation. Although new to the Keyblade, Kairi seems to at least have basic knowledge in swinging and dodging, given she grew up with two boys. And although she has room for improvement, if her determination and eagerness are anything to go by, if she's given enough time to practice and wield it, she can get better at fighting.

Character Personality:
If you list down almost every positive trait you can think of, you'll end up with Kairi. Optimistic, cheerful, outgoing, friendly-- the list goes on. As someone who embodies pure light, she's a shining example to her friends and to anyone she meets. Starting from early childhood where she wastes no time being friendly with her savior, even befriending people she just met after apparently coming out of their wall, her friendliness knows no bounds. As much as a princess like the other Princesses of the Heart, she values friendship the most and making friends comes to her easily .
Even if she spent most of the first game in a comatose state, Kairi is an active person during those times she's not missing her heart. She's a bit of a tomboy, after all growing up with two boys at her side. She doesn't coddle them but rather guides them on what to do (she has a set task list for Sora and doesn't let him slack off while working at the raft) and has no qualms in supporting the playful banter and competitions between her friends, even if she doesn't realize it's her attention they're competing for. Although her feelings for Sora are questionably stronger, it doesn't mean she completely favors him over Riku. At the end of the day, teasing and bossing around aside, they're the most important people to her and she just wants all three of them to be together again.
She's a fierce determinator when it comes to her friends, and the next time we see her awake, she doesn't hesitate in putting herself in danger for their sake. From trying to go back to Riku even with Donald yapping at her to go already to throwing herself in front of Sora's Heartless to protect him once she recognized him. Even if she's not a fighter, she's not completely helpless. Most of the time she's just as eager to jump into the fray armed with nothing but her fists, and is not the type to sit around and wait for help unless there really is nothing she can do about the situation. If an opportunity presents itself, she takes it with only little hesitation. Though as much as Kairi hates getting left behind, and would rather fight together with her friends, she respects the decisions they make when they have things to do.
Getting separated from them for over a year had mellowed her out and made her more mature. It definitely tested her patience and how willing she was to wait for them both to return home, not to mention that she believed that someday they would return. Her loyalty and faith to both is immeasurable, and she believes in her friends so much. She didn't force Sora to take her to save Riku during the first game because Sora promised he'd bring Riku back, and she believes he would. She doesn't bat an eye at Riku's appearance in the World that Never Was, and is simply glad to see him again. Kairi has the utmost trust in her friends and would never doubt them, although she does worry.
Kairi is also a bit of a romantic. This includes creating a Wayfinder for them to use while they were making a raft, believing in its power to watch people over in their journey. There's also the legend of the Paopu fruit, which is something she didn't voice openly in the game, but nonetheless, her drawing of giving Sora a star in response to his own means she values the legend just as much. And finally sending out the letter in the bottle, which she believed would reach the boy she couldn't remember. Later on this letter eventually reached a stranded Sora and Riku in the Dark Meridian. Her actions show how much she puts faith into things once she believes in them.
Character Plans: A big plot of the Port revolves around the Darkness and monsters, which is interesting since it's similar to the setting in Kingdom Hearts. Apart from being there for her friends, it would be interesting to see Kairi try to cope being out there for the first time exposed to danger instead of being safely back in the islands. She's not one to pick sides, though, unless she sees the whole picture.
