A long, long time ago, I heard someone say when the student is ready, the master will appear.
So I waited. I've been waiting, on and off, for the better part of twenty years. I've encountered charlatan upon charlatan, false prophets and would-be saints. Along the way,I met others who were waiting. I think they probably still are. They are waiting for Obi-Wan or Mr. Miagi to knock on their door and proclaim them ready to teach. They are waiting for a sign, some mystical, heavenly event to signal to them that the time is now.
But they've forgotten something, just like I have.
We've forgotten to make ourselves ready. Just like so many wise old sayings, we've taken this one and used it as an excuse to be lazy. We've used it as an excuse to say "oh, I'm just not ready yet. The time will come if I just wait."
No, it won't. The master hasn't appeared because we have not put forth the time or the dedication. We have not had to mop the sweat from our foreheads because we were trying so hard.
We thought Jesus would knock on the front door while we were busy watching The Family Guy. We are dead, dead wrong.
Don't wait any longer. Make yourself ready.
