He stealing glances to the girl who is sitting quietly next to him, writing down her notes before passing it in front of him. Jongin frowned as he reads the tutoring schedule she planned.
“Two hours after school and extra lessons on Saturday and Sunday?” He shouted. “How about my dance lessons? I have performances this weekend. How could-”
Hyoeun shrugged casually. “That’s your problem,” she said while leaning to the wooden chair. “Saturday and Sunday only one hour each, you choose the time. I only work on what assigned to me.”
Jongin tossed the book over the table and resulting Hyoeun glared at him. He impatiently stands up and walked out the classroom as he heard her shouting.
“We’re starting tomorrow. Prepare yourself, Jongin!”
Jongin muttered incoherent thing as he dashed off the classroom towards the school gate. His mind goes blank as his homeroom teacher informed this morning that he will get tutoring. It could be better if he gets tutored by Kim Minseok, one year his senior, whom he known as his cousins, Kim Jongdae, close friend, but he has no choice as he get paired up to the most annoying girl he ever known, Park Hyoeun.
It will be nightmare.
.
As they slowly reach the third week of tutoring which is only having a successful few meeting, -thrice on the first week and only twice on the second week, with no extra lesson for both week-, Hyoeun starts to thinking about new strategies. So, she is stalking him home at the day before and showing up in the early morning in the living room, which granted her a very warm welcome from his mom. Jongin looks so upset.
“Tell me what are you doing at my house, in such early morning like this?” He sits on the spinning chair, arm and leg crossed, glared at the seemingly happy girl when they reached over his room.
“Why do you look so upset? I thought you were happy seeing me here, as a result of your skipped tutoring the extra lesson for two weeks.” Hyoeun keeps talking as she brings out the book from her bag.
“And it’s already 10 o’clock, mister. I hope you don’t consider it as ‘such in early morning like this’.” She is trying to mocking the boy.
Jongin mumbled things as he lost for words. What happen next is really out of his control as he heard the girl will adding extra three hours for today lessons, or if he behaves, she will reduce it only for two hours.
“How dare you-“ He groans. “I have dance practice at 1PM and I never missed! How-“
“Just start and behave, Kim Jongin. We have to catch up three subjects by today or prepare to say goodbye for your next exam.” She said without tilted her head from the text book. Jongin, somehow, is grumbling by himself.
.
He just heavily sighed as he saw the grinning face when he walked out from the dance studio. Sehun pats his shoulder playfully and whispers, “Your girlfriend is here,” which only reacted by a death glare from the tanned boy. Baekhyun happily chirping beside Sehun and waving towards Hyoeun.
“Hi, Hyoeun -ah, are you going to kidnap Jongin again this week?” the shorter boy nonchalantly asked.
The said girl is smiling widely. “I hope you don’t mind, Baek. Until he successfully passed his exam, I will disturb your date with him every week.” She laughs and tries to play along.
Sehun bursts into laugh as Jongin looks very displeased. They both leaving in separate ways, which Sehun and Baekhyun walk towards the food stall while Hyoeun drags Jongin into the nearest bus stop.
“Where will we going?” He asked as he looks confuse by the bus direction. “Aren’t we going to my house?”
“No.” She said happily. “We’ll be going to the temple. I’ve found one who’s making the best charms ever.”
Jongin rolled his eyes by surprised. “What?”
“Sst.” Hyoeun puts her pointy finger on Jongin lips. He quite flustered with the sudden contact. “Trust me, okay?”
He blinked couple times before nods. She will not cause any harm just because Jongin let her lead the way, won’t she?
.
They arrived at the said place an hour later. Hyoeun pushed him to walk into the temple when she saw him standing stunned at the front gate. Jongin rubs his pimple as soon as the temple guardian asks him what kind of charm he will make.
“Er-“ He stuttered and slightly pouted which makes the girl chuckles. “I just dragged along here with her, so I don’t know what kind of charm I should make.” He explains.
The wise guardian nods, as he throws the unexpected question. “Aren’t you couples?” He asked without hesitation. “Recently lots of young couples come by and wished for the long lasting relationship and I suggest-”
Jongin quickly answered. “No.” He shakes his head. “We aren’t couples. She’s my classmates. A friend.”
As he explains, Hyoeun already stands beside him and handed a small pocket. She plastered her face with a friendly smile. Jongin look at her confusedly.
“What’s this?”
“Your lucky charm.”
“My lucky charm?”
She nods. “I know it may sound childish, but, I wish you would carry those charms for me, as a present from a friend. It will help you on the exam, by the way.”
Jongin mouth formed an ‘o’ as she explains. He doesn’t know why his heart become warm by a small handed gift from a certain girl named Park Hyoeun. That annoying Park Hyoeun who becomes a friendly Park Hyoeun as time passes by.
.
Hyoeun pats his back as they walk in unison out from the lion’s den or known as the teacher’s room. She smiled happily as Jongin can’t hide his excitement.
“Congratulation, Kim Jongin.” She chirped. “You really work hard.”
“Well-“ He assures the smile, “-it won’t be the same without your help, Eun. Thanks for helping that much.”
She hides the blush on her cheek as she murmured something. “I thought the charms work well, too.”
Jongin suddenly stopped as he had the urges to explain about something. Hyoeun look at him curiously as he dragged her to the school yard when he finally confessed about something. She blinked couple times.
“I-I lost it.”
Hyoeun’s brain try to register what does Jongin said about losing something. As she clicks, she breathes in and calmly asks. “When did you lose it?”
He nervously messages his neck. “A week ago. At morning before the exams. I thought I left it at home, but-“
“Sst.” She smiled. “It’s okay. The charm is nothing.” She proudly tapped his shoulder. “You’ve worked hard, Kim Jongin.”
“But-“
“No buts. I feel proud of you.”
Jongin awkwardly smiles as he loosens his guilty feeling by the moment she tapped his shoulder. As he turns his head and sees her proudly smiling, Jongin definitely decides something.
“Park Hyoeun.” He shouts.
“Yes.”
“You know what?” He whispers.
“Hm?”
“You are my lucky charms for now and forever.”
