Suggestions for Writer's Block?

I have been having serious writer's block for months now.  I sit down to write a fic, or to write anything and I just can't seem to get anything out. And now most of flist are writers, so what do you do to get rid of writer's block?

I'm sorry that you've been wrestling with writer's block. That's definitely not fun. :-/

I use a few tricks to try to get rid of writer's block. One was a suggestion from my Creative Writing teacher in high school. It doesn't always work, but more often than not, I've found that it does seem to help shake the cobwebs loose.

Pull up a blank page in a writing program and for five minutes, just type the first thing that comes to mind. No punctuation. Don't worry if it winds up making no sense whatsoever. Type, literally, whatever you're thinking. It turns out as a really random stream of consciousness, but sometimes that can be enough to get you back into the right mind-set for writing.

Or, another trick I use is to write a short, but utterly silly piece from one of my fandoms where everyone is out of character and obnoxious. (Just for your eyes only of course, lol. It doesn't need to be something you'll post. :) ) When I do that, it usually makes me laugh, lol, and again, it seems to help push me back into writing mode. Once in a while, I've tried writing a very serious, dark scene instead, and that has also helped. The important thing seems to be that its extreme in one way or the other. Just do whatever fits your mood.

It might also be that you're a little burned out. Take a step back and relax a little. Do something else creative that you enjoy, whether it be working on art, or listening to music, ect. Then, when you feel refreshed, try to write again and see what happens. If you're not inspired, prompts or challenges are always a good source for material.

For me, personally, too, I've learned that my creativity sometimes has a mind of its own. Sometimes I'm furiously inspired...other times, eh. Nope. I've got nuthin.' (I'm always a little jealous of one of my friends who can just power her way through fics, lol). But, the longer I write, the more I've learned to just try to relax if I'm blocked. As long as you want it to, inspiration will come back, though it might take a little time. Be patient, and keep working. Praying can help too - the Lord is the best inspiration of all. :)

I don't know if all of that will help, but I hope it does. *hugs*

Thank you so much! These are things that I haven't tried yet! I also signed up for the hc-bingo challenge, and maybe that will help to. :)
