Argh. Popped into my head out of nowhere but then did not flow.
It's very short though, so I chugged through it anyways.
“You’re beautiful, you know,” he said with a small grin playing about his lips. Wind tore through the trees around him, messing up his hair even with the gel, whipping his clothes around his slim torso. “I just…I never told you before. Thought you should know.”
He tapped his foot nervously; in the grass, it made no sound. He chuckled, nervously, and averted his eyes. “You were always so sweet to me. I…I wish it had worked out for us, but I guess that’s how life goes. Y’know? I…”
Somewhere he thought he heard laughter. He sighed and shrugged, then smiled at his feet. “Goodbye, Sammi. I’m sorry I didn’t get here sooner. This is the best I could do.” He reached out.
His fingers slid over smooth marble, polished like glass, before he turned away and climbed back down the small hill.
And if there was moisture at all on his cheeks, the wind stole it away before he ever noticed,
