I was told we only live about a mile away from Universal Studios, so i walked there today.
There is a really steep hill up to the entrance of Universal and i walked up it huffy and puffing, but i wasn't the only one who didn't wait for the tram. There were 2 people in motorized wheelchairs making tracks too. But after the first break in the sidewalk, there were no more wheelchair ramps so they had to drive in the road. They kept up and probably sweated less than i did.
There are all sorts of gimics on City Walk (the part of universal studios that you don't have to pay to get into) One of these things was called IFly.
http://www.iflyhollywood.com/ I sat and watched for a bit, but basically they put you in a suit put you inside turn on the wind and somebody helps you get situated and probably makes sure you don't run into stuff, but the air blows you up an down and they can spin you. It was weird looking, but looked fun.
I walked into a tourist shop called something like, Not from this world. It turned out to be a comic book store with action figures and books. I got to have a smarty pants moment. there were two guys looking at a shelf of books and one of them picked one up. I didn't see what, and he said, "what has this guy done, I have heard of him but can't quite place him. Scott McCloud?" That was one i actually knew, his friend didn't know the name so i said, Well he wrote a book on deconstructing comic books, a sort of beginnings guide to reading them within an academic framework. It is common material for university comic book classes."
I probably also should have mentioned that it wasn't a very good book, but i didn't really like any of his other online stuff we looked at either. Anyway, as the only girl in the store, other than the one who worked there, I was proud to have actually remembered something relevant.
As i was leaving Universal studios i noticed that a guy down by the tram stop, was showing off his tarantula, letting it wander all over his hands for people to watch.
It was kind of like a trip to the zoo.
