the briefest of updates

I'm sitting here in my fuzzy PJs with pandas on them because it's my day off and I'll completely fail at productivity if I want to. I did do laundry, tho, so there's that. Also I watched the entire first season of The Morning Show on Apple TV and I loved it. But the weekend has vanished, and the extra day yielded no actual accomplishments of any sort.

So far this year I've read three books, which is pretty great, but I'm still throwing out most fiction books on page 20. Their crime: failing to interest or engage me. Non-fiction is easier to get into. Currently I'm reading a non-fiction epic about dumb Arctic explorers (Labyrinth of Ice: The Triumphant and Tragic Greely Polar Expedition). (Dumb is the modern word for 'brave'; they all used to be called 'brave' or 'adventurous' or 'courageous' or 'triumphant' but mostly they were incredibly dumb because of hubris, let's face it.) I just finished a book about Harry Truman called The Accidental President, which focused on a very narrow period of time between FDR's death and the unconditional surrender of Japan. Fascinating stuff.

Also I've become enamored of packing cubes and Kon Mari folding techniques. Well, at least for this trip, anyway. I'll go back to military rolling soon, I'm sure. My suitcase looks so elegant and organized! If only I could figure out what shoes to put into it, my stress levels would go way down. You wouldn't think that shoes could be so important. (Does anyone else load 100 hours of media onto an iPad for 6 hours of flying? Just me? The sad reality is, I'm probably just going to play Peggle Blast and read Gideon the Ninth the whole time.)

Now I will set this book aside, fold some towels and watch MI Ghost Protocol because I want to. I like to make pictures with Hunt and Brandt in my head (but not type them out into stories, because that would be too much work and I don't want any work, thanks). Happy MLK Day! Hope most of you in the US had it off.
