This is a gift for an anon wish at insmallpackages - Any fan work of any type or length at all about Esca/Marcus from The Eagle. I've literally run out of time to work on it (or come up with a summary or title, which can take me weeks, seriously) since the challenge deadline is Monday, so - here it is.

untitled
Marcus/Esca, R (mature), about 2,500 words

*gnurgle*!!!!! Oh my, you've hit perfect notes here. I adore Esca, and loved seeing him through Marcus' eyes, fierce and hardened and frankly, hot as fuck.

Sorry to bombard you with stalky love all over your fic but it's your own fault for posting so much awesomeness! Love your work so much <3

Gorgeous! So warm and promising-- A home where you will choose who is welcome, sigh!

This bit really hit home, too:

He tugged at the draped folds of his toga until it gave, and shed it off like an old skin, a lump of misshapen fabric at his feet.

Definitely. Goodbye forever to the old ways and the old forms, as he emerges into something bright and new. ♥ ♥ ♥

You are so nice. :) Thank you so much. I feel a bit like this is well-traveled ground, but. Deadline. No more time for poking at it. I need another weekend! *g*

I'm the original wisher, and you've filled my wish perfectly, even more perfectly than I'd ever dare hope! I love the solemn yet gentle tone of this, because it's both a moment in life to be taken seriously and yet also a really tender one. I like that you managed to pay attention to the minor characters even in such a short story. I lovelovelove the line "Esca's sharp eyes examined him, understanding all Marcus had not said, since this was the way of things for them," because it rings so true. And I love the line about the toga dropping off Marcus "like an old skin, a lump of misshapen fabric at his feet" because it's such a nice representation of him…moulting into this new life with Esca. Just, thank you so much for filling! I really enjoyed reading it. <3
