Merlin recs: 9 canon era, 2 modern era
Happy Monday! Have some Merlin recs. All but two of these are canon era.
No Worthy Reason by enviropony - Merlin/Gwaine, Arthur, and the dragons - 30,261. I feel like people may be skipping this story in PL this year because it's billed as Gwaine/Merlin, but honestly, I wish people would give it a chance. There's barely any Gwaine/Merlin in the story, and while the pairing matters somewhat to the plot, the story is a good one. Merlin is injured at Arthur's hand, and the dragons are outraged, and Arthur is confused and has to figure out where he stands. I LOVED THE DRAGONS IN THIS. I seriously enjoyed this story.
Apotheosis by Fulgance - Merlin/Arthur, 8950 words. In which Merlin is outed as a sorcerer, and there is fallout. This is part of a series of magic reveal short fics by the author; all are good.
It will not last the night by agenttrojie - Merlin/Arthur, Merlin/Mordred, 697 words. In which Merlin wants what he cannot really have.
The Men They've Become by Eurydice - Merlin/Arthur, 897 words. Futurefic.
All of Himself by StormDancer - Merlin/Arthur, 12,311 words. In which Merlin lets loose his magic, and there is fallout.
An Emptiness In Me by elless - Merlin/Arthur, Leon, modern era, 15,535 words. Arthur comes back, but it's not how Merlin expected, exactly. Also features a nice twist using Leon.
Pining for the Moon by EachPeachPearPlum - Merlin/Arthur, 13,297 words. Heed the warnings. This story has a happy ending, but OMG, it wrecked me along the way. It's amazing, tho.
Vertigo by xaritomene - Merlin/Arthur, Gwen/Arthur, 490. A vignette about what it means for a king to have friendships.
Occupy Camelot by stagarden - Merlin/Arthur, 41,761 words. This story made me grin because of the set-up -- if you follow politics, or are familiar with the stultifying tropes of corporate culture, it will crack you up in places. But at heart, it's an AU where King Arthur meets the leader of the Druids, Merlin, and all follows from there. A fun read.
Ivy and Amaranth by xthursdaynextx - Merlin/Arthur, 41,886 words. This is a lovely story, where Merlin and Arthur go on a bit of a quest together, and discover their feelings for each other, and there's a magic reveal, and it's just generally awesome in all ways.
Flying Change by magnolia822 - Merlin/Arthur, modern AU, 48,425 words. The stats show this story is extremely popular, so it probably doesn't need a rec from me. Nevertheless: teenage Mordred is causing headaches for his papa, Arthur, and magical tutor Merlin steps in. You can guess where it all goes from there.
I'm SO BEHIND on PL reading! I hope to get caught up while I'm away from the internet for the next few weeks.
