Links and things for a Sunday
I'm taking a break from revising/rewriting/editing my paperlegends story, which I must post on Wednesday. THIS IS MY ANXIETY FACE. So I bring you links and stuff, for distraction. (I'm not sure if it's for your distraction, or my procrastination.)
- Rolling Stone's article on The Most Awesomely '80's videos made me all nostalgic for the day we got MTV in my house. Back then, they were playing the same ten videos on repeat all day. (Mexican Radio; Jeopardy by the Greg Kihn Band; Rio by Duran Duran; White Wedding by Billy Idol; Billy Jean by Michael Jackson; etc.) Those were the days (back when they actually played videos on MTV). I remember how revolutionary Thriller and Take On Me seemed when they emerged. And Dire Straits' Money For Nothing.
- The Perseid meteor shower will be giving its free show tonight and tomorrow night. Can't be beat for the wow factor, especially on a dark night.
- There are several popular YA ebooks on sale for under $4 at Amazon right now, including Don't Turn Around by Michelle Gagnon, The Crown of Embers by Rae Carson, The Hallowed Ones by Laura Bickle, Bright Young Things by Anna Godbersen, Defiance by C. J. Redwine, Outcast by Adrienne Kress, and Spellcaster by Claudia Grey. Get 'em while they're cheap. Or not. (Disclaimer: I haven't read all of these, but some of them have been recommended to me, so I picked them up.)
- Roundup of random Tumblr hilarity: squeaking frog; If Shakespeare Wrote Star Wars; why Welsh is the funnest language ever; Tom Hopper imitating Merlin's 'summon the dragon' face and Bradley James trying not to burst out laughing; let me tell u a thing about sharks; and a visual representation of how one accidentally joins a fandom.
- Hostess baked goods are back on sale. I'm not saying there is a box of HoHos in my kitchen right now. But there might be.
- Random roundup of awesome fanart found on Tumblr: Pon Farr; adorable SG-1 chibi set of entire cast; Steve/Tony Avengers art that's hot despite me not caring about this fandom at all; Gladiator fanart; a Merlin piece explaining how Will and Kate got it wrong; and Gwaine carrying an injured Merlin, with bonus fanfic about the art by dvswraatins because she is AWESOME. :D
