I don't understand why all the problems with Falling Skies don't bug me. I can't really say it's better than Terra Nova or Walking Dead, but Terra Nova was useless and boring and Walking Dead enrages me. Whereas I watch Falling Skies and think "Man, for a scout team trying to find a safe way past a gauntlet of alien enemies they're trying to hide from, they sure do bellow at each other across long distances a lot."...oh well.

I think it's because, flawed execution or not, Falling Skies does a much better job overall of making it seem like all the characters are aware they're in an alien invasion war show. Like, a good plot for a kid in Falling Skies is "How young should this kid start learning to use guns?" Or for Tom his whole "No, I think the circumstances of my escape are suspicious, and I don't think you should trust me, in fact I think you should tie me up.", as opposed to Terra Nova that seemed to want to be about anything else but survival in dinosaur land most weeks, or fucking Walking Dead where they think good drama is a fight between two female characters about whether one of them isn't doing enough dishes and laundry.
