SPN 6x18

Oh, show! When you give me continuity, I am yours all over again. :D :D

Remember 1x20, and John talking about Daniel Elkins, who had the Colt? The guy Dean stole it from in 1973? The one whose journal was instructive about various things? So is it a coincidence that the bartender's name is Elkins? I THINK NOT. It is a glorious, beautiful, subtle bit of continuity. Either Elkins picked that Colt up off the ground and it passed down through the generations in his family (a family of hunters, probably!), or it passed to him through Samuel Colt for safekeeping. Either way, what a cool little nod to the past. Or the future! :D

Other awesome things:

- Bobby's Deadwood reference. AHAHAHAHA. Listen, I first fell in love with Jim Beaver on Deadwood, and I appreciated that more than I probably should have. AWESOME.

- PERFECT BROTHERLY HARMONY. They are finally playing not just in the same key, not just on the same piano, but from the same piece of music, and it's so happymaking!!!!

- Dean's little smile after his string of posse jokes! Not a grin, not a smirk, but an out-of-nowhere, bright-as-sunshine SMILE! Dean is smiling again! :D :D :D

- Sam! Sam on a horse! Sam being all tough and detective-like and demanding with Samuel Colt! Sam being beautiful and delicious and funny! SAAAAM!

- Speaking of Sams, I thought Samuel Colt was particularly fun. That actor had great presence, and he had a perfect balance of world-weary, cynical and sharp. I loved him! Can we have more of him??? Bring him to the future! He already knows how to use a Blackberry; he has mad skillz.

- Then there was Castiel. Oh, Castiel, what are you up to?? I fail at appreciating his pain at having to kill Rachel because we only knew her like two seconds. Alas. But she very nearly managed to do him in, and I would love to know why she's decided her commander in the field - the one they've vested all their faith in - is too dangerous to live. O.o WHAT IS GOING ON. Castiel is doing something terribly shady, and it's intriguing.

- Bobby being all 'Are we running or fighting' :D :D and Castiel painting a sigil in his blood before passing out and the SOUL PROBING was all made of win. WIIIIIN.

- Everything about Dean's fetish was hysterically funny, from the whole 'nice blanket' thing to his "I look good" comment about the hat. Also, loved the way he called out Mr. Phoenix on the iron issue. I especially loved that the bad guy wasn't really bad; the show is returning to its season 2-3-4 shades of gray ethos, which makes me especially happy.

- HOW WONDERFUL WAS IT TO SEE SAM AND DEAN BEING BROTHERLY? PRETTY WONDERFUL. Sam's bitchfaces the last two episodes are like catnip!

- Dear Dean: Clint Eastwood does not endorse your choice of his movies. How about Dirty Harry? Unforgiven? Pale Rider? That one where he was in the Secret Service?? The one where he played Misty for Jessica Walter?? But dude, not the ones with the monkeys. Just, no.

I'm forgetting so much stuff. It doesn't matter. This was the most fun and enjoyable episode of SPN I've seen in two seasons, bar none. <3
