Dear Yuletide writer...
Since there's a very good chance we don't know each other, given how many participants there are (OMG so many!) -- here are some additional notes for you, in case you are looking for more hints.
I think getting too specific on the story I want will probably only inhibit your ability to write whatever creative thing comes to you re the prompt. At least, it works that way for me as a writer; the more narrow and detailed the request, the harder it is to write.
So, in general, I don't enjoy: MPREG, partner betrayal, BDSM, crossovers, kids featuring prominently in the story, explicit sex (slash or het) without a plot framework around it, or explicit het.
I do love: first times, developing relationships, UST resolving to happy endings, hurt/comfort, a good take on an old-fashioned cliche-or-tropefic, angst, stories rich in character or period detail, stories that explore the inner lives of characters, plot, stories that carry out past the end of canon or that explore moments in canon we never really got to see.
In three of the fandoms I requested, there's a huge 'but what happens next?!' component to the ending, in canon. I'd like to know what happens next. I know there's major character death in two of the four fandoms, too, but I think I'd rather the story not focus on those events where Johnny, Dally and Vorenus are concerned. In fact, making them AU (never happened, lalala) would be perfectly fine with me. *g*
And in case you're wondering whether I prefer slash, het, or gen - I like them all, depending upon the fandom and/or the pairings. I'd say I'm primarily a slash fan, with gen coming in a close second, but I read everything.
Shawshank: As I said in the prompt, I really, really would love any story that gives a glimpse into the lives Red and Andy make for themselves in Mexico. I don't care at all if it's slash or gen, because both are completely plausible to me, but I think their relationship is such a pure kind of love that I don't especially want to read explicit porn about their passionate affair. *g*
The Outsiders: Anything exploring the (gen) relationship of the Curtis brothers during the period described in the book or in the future, or the (slash or gen) relationship between Dally and Johnny prior to Johnny's death (and actually, prior to the events in the book), would make me unbelievably happy. Dally is so protective of Johnny; I'd like to know what led to that. For this fandom, any other characters you bring in are likely to make me happy as well; I love all of them, and could happily read about them all day long.
Rome: As long as Vorenus and Pullo are the focus, I'm happy. Full stop. :) I also love every other character on the show, pretty much, but especially Caesar, Antony, Atia, Posca, Niobe, and Servilia.
Big Eden: Anything slice of life in that town will fill me with glee, especially if it's post-movie. I love all these characters, too, particularly Sampa, but I'd love it if the focus is on Henry and Pike. I LOVE THEM. :D
