You know, that was hands-down the single most disgusting episode of SPN to date. And I could have lived without the maggots. YUK. Now I'm going to be checking my food for weeks. WEEKS. Also, I did think for just a second that they might pull a Xander on Sam. I'm pretty relieved they didn't. Pirate!Sam wouldn't do it for me. *g*
The dialog in this ep was particularly snappy and snarky and extra-awesome, wasn't it? I have no idea who wrote it because I don't pay attention to that stuff and don't actually care, but they get a gold star for the week. Also, the ep was stuffed with fan faves from other shows: Lorne, Mr. X, and that guy who plays all kind of sad creepy people. Canadian actor bingo FTW! I was so happy to see Steven Williams. I love that guy.
OK, now let's talk about Sid and Nancy. I think Sam has finally slipped a gear. The fact that he seriously was thinking about making Dean immortal, and himself too, on account of how they can't live without each other Sam is so desperate that he doesn't care what the consequences to himself might be? I do not think I can address that coherently right now. Mostly I am in the 'Sam is so desperate, he is going to do something incredibly dumb' area of opinion, and I'm scared to think about what that might mean. Because we ALL KNOW WHAT HAPPENS when Winchesters get desperate. O.o So I will move on to the part where Dean remembered the canon and refused to let Sam do anything *to* him to change the deal so that Sam would not drop dead. This point has been bothering me for a while, and I really would like to see some meta from someone smart about how much Dean has actively done to beat the deal, vs. Sam's actions. Does asking who holds his contract count? Exorcising demons? I dunno. I guess not, since Sam is still breathing.
Anyway, when Dean and Sam went their separate ways and Sam got all teary and Dean went to the Sammy place, it caused me so much anxiety, I could not sit still on the couch. I started yelling at the TV again. "NO LEAVING, DEAN!" OMG. As if Sam last week wasn't BAD ENOUGH. Plus, when they separate and Dean starts drinking with hardened, bitter hunters, usually nothing good comes of it. *g* That moment when Sam said, "You're not gonna let me? How you going to stop me?" was so, so awesome, because of that look of confusion, and then realization, on Dean's face: he forgot. He forgot that in three weeks, he can't stop Sam from doing anything. He forgot that he can't be the big brother and protect Sam anymore, and that's why when he said, "Be careful, Sammy," I just...MY HEART.
But I loved how cute Sam was in the very beginning, when he was playing Dean and he was so pleased with himself for getting Dean to agree to the hunt. Zombies are the best enticement ever. (Tho werewolves seem to get Dean's motor running, too, but I think Sam has had enough of those.)
And Dean's scared, sad face when Sam was doing the exorcism...awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
Bela's death = poetic justice, and a nice twist on things (plus a way to conveniently reveal who holds the contract), and I'm happy she's dead. I wanted to see her get what was coming to her, and she did, in a way that satisfies her purpose on the show and satisfies my need to see Dean fuck her up without actually beating or killing her. Yes, her parents were horrible. Yes, she was 14 when she made the deal. So? She was BAD TO THE BONE. She shot Sam. She turned them in to the FBI. She took the Colt and stripped Dean of a tool he could have used to save himself. She broke in to kill Sam to save herself. Dead now = yay.
"I'll try anything once, but that sounds uncomfortable." OH DEAN. You win at everything. \o/!
I can't think about what's coming next week. Nope. If I think about it, I'll go spoiler-hunting. MUSTN'T SPOIL MYSELF. ACK. *wibble*
ETA: I didn't think about this til just now, but...it's interesting, isn't it, that Lilith tried to dispatch a human to kill Sam? Perhaps she is worried about Sam getting in the way of Dean's contract? Is she afraid she can't beat him?? Why is she trying to get rid of Sam the old-fashioned way?? Interesting, hmmm.
