Meet my neighbor

Apr 26, 2009 10:12

This is one of two pileated woodpeckers that have been visiting my yard this weekend. It is part of a mating pair. I know this because this is moments after baby woodpecker making too place. This is the male of the pair. Males and females can be distinguished by the red forehead and mustache that males have but females do not. Both members of the pair share in the incubation of eggs.
