What Dreams, Dean/Castiel snippet, G

Day Two of the same opening sentence, different fandoms experiment. Yesterday's Torchwood effort is here. Time for some Supernatural.

Dean is sleeping, face pressed into the pillow, and Castiel can look his fill.

He is still settling into this body, this vessel. It's full of conflicting impulses, new and base and fascinating. Castiel feels closer to his father's creations than he ever has before, in thousands of years.

The vessel is drawn to Dean, or maybe Castiel himself is. The vessel hungers for food, thirsts for water and craves the occasional cigarette. It needs to be washed and cleaned and cared for, and it voids its wastes and demands its sleep.

Castiel thinks there is such a vast universe of things about humans he has yet to understand. Dean is, perhaps, more human than most-more flawed, more broken. More filled with conflicting, unfathomable needs; such love and guilt and sorrow. Such goodness he fails to recognize.

Dean stirs, perhaps in troubled dreams, and calls for his brother. His brother isn't here now, but perhaps in Dean's dream he is.

Castiel keeps watching over Dean, and waits for him to wake.
