The two were defeated and dying, and they pushed away anyone who tried to help. After what they'd done, they would never be accepted anywhere they went, and they'd known that they were risking their lives with what they were doing. So they chose to die. But they died together. Luc, who had never accepted himself as truly human, who had thought that he didn't have a human soul, found that he did, and that there were people who loved him and would mourn him. And Sarah, who had been rescued by Luc and devoted her life to him, had her love recognized and returned. Each of them found in the other what they had been wanting their whole lives, and were allowed by the True Runes to rest.
