I read this yesterday and meant to leave a comment, because it really is excellent, but it was my mother's birthday so it slipped my mind... Fortunately it was still up in my tabs.

This might be one of the most honest looks at the Wall/post-Wall relationship between Peter and Sylar that I've seen. And I love how you interpret Sylar's "moving of the spot", not just because of the nice turning point it makes in Peter's view of Sylar, and how despite his ability for "understanding", at the root of it he was as blindsided by the development of his ability as any of them.

I also love your explanation of how the spot was moved, and how Sylar's power works in general, because it's never even occurred to me to think of it that way before. My father survived a stroke a couple of years back, so I understood what you were saying about different parts of the brain taking up different jobs, and applying that to Sylar's ability is just absolutely brilliant.

(P.S. Thanks for the kudos on AO3. I saw your name pop up and thought "Why is that familiar..." and looked over in my tabs and was like "OH! Right!" :D )

No sweat! And thanks for commenting XD I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it!

It's still more rose-tinted than I initially intended, but I couldn't bring myself to write Peter a harsher judge - I do prefer happy (or at least hopeful) endings.

Sylar's kill spot: I was pretty much WTF? when they did it on the show, b/c srly, did they put any thought to the mechanics of it? I know they all have superpowers, but the show itself tried to sell a scientific background right from the start, not make it look like magic. Where else was he supposed to shift that spot? The back of his knees? That just doesn't make any kind of sense. Achilles's heel or Siegfried's back have a more logical explanation than that.

Sorry, it's a pet peeve of mine.

Anyway, I've tried to find an explanation that made that at least halfway believable, and it's been my headcanon ever since. I think both Chandra and Gabriel said in '6 mths ago' sth like: It's all in the brain, and I took that as inspiration. I am relieved that it makes sense outside of my head too =P

On a sidenote, it just occurred to me that it's interesting that, for s.o. who is so afraid of 'aloneness', Sylar has chosen to put himself in a position where he will be alone - or at least constantly left - for a very long time by taking Claire's power.

(Um, yeah. I'm a notorious lurker, and I am so bad at leaving reviews even for stories I absolutely adore, that button on AO3 is a godsend ;). One of these days I'm going to list everything that I love about your story, but until then, does it help that I check your journal every other day for updates? So... will Sylar find out about his grandpa? XP)

Yeah, I stopped viewing the show's phlebotinum from a "scientific" angle around the time Mohinder started mutating into a lizard... Though I'd always interpreted the implied physical move as being something Sylar could, hypothetically, be capable of through shapeshifting. Given his original ability, it doesn't seem too farfetched that he might figure out ways to use or combine the powers he has in ways that would be impossible for their original wielders to imagine, let alone survive.

(Though it if ever comes up, I might steal your piece of headcanon, because it's simply superior.)

I know what you mean about the button. Sometimes it's hard to think of something to say about a fic when you've read so many, but it's awesome being able to let them know you were there.

It's been a trial trying to keep myself focused on the fic, both because of RL and because I've got a dozen other 'verses going on at once. As for Sylar... Black Edelweiss is part of a larger series, so it might be a while, but I don't think you'll be disappointed. My eventual plans for Sylar are some of the oldest ideas I've had for the series, and they take him in a direction I haven't seen many authors go before.

Sorry, RL has been busy =(

Truthfully, I haven't ever really bought the scientific angle, but pseudo-science is always fun to listen to - or poke holes in. I just find it sad that so few shows stay true to their own concepts - like: whatever happened to Claire's blood? It could bring back Noah from a bullet wound, it couldn't bring back Nathan from a slit throat?

And, yeah, sorry, but I still don't buy that kill spot shift. I agree that Sylar takes his abilities to way beyond of what their original owners could do, but Claire's 'powercenter' is in her brain - canonically - so it stands to reason that shifting it outside of the brain, shapeshifting or otherwise, would be - kind of impossible? I don't know, I'm not a scientist, I'm not explaining this right. It just sounds wrong to me, is all. (yeah, like I said, pet peeve -_-;)

Anyway, feel free to steal my headcanon *lol* In fact, it would make me a very happy fangirl ;)

Also, now you're just teasing! But fine. I'll be patient XP
I know how that goes, anyway. I have a dozen fics started, and I can't seem to finish any one of them =(
