Link doesn't usually mind girls crying because of him, but it's usually because they're watching him on TV or see him on the street or something. He's not used to making them cry because of ... Anything else. It's even worse because he actually likes Tracy, and he wants to help her, but he's got to do what's best for him. Right? Right ( Read more... )

Genevieve walks out of her room, actually, when she hears Link's question, and it doesn't take her long to make up her mind about what the situation is.

"Hello, are you lost?"

She figures it's the easy way to get him some answers. Thankfully, she's slept and she's not completely a mess, or completely exhausted as she's been for the whole week. She's still ridiculously confused, though.

"Oh - yes." He smiles a little. "I think I must have taken the wrong door." Which sounds ridiculous, but he needs to tell himself these things for himself.

"That is what I thought as well when I arrived," she says with a small smile. "Where were you trying to go?"

"I was just trying to get home." He looks around. "This doesn't look like anything I've seen in Baltimore."

"It's probably like nothing you've seen anywhere else," Genevieve replies quietly. "I was in Cherbourg when I found myself landing here. It's called the hotel."

She notices the way he's dressed - he's from her period, he looks so familiar for it, it's wonderful.

"What do you mean?" Link worries at his lip slightly.

"I... don't really to, to be sincere," she replies, thoughtfully. "I mean, I've tried to leave. It's not something that I can do."

"... Oh." This is upsetting. How's he going to perform for all those agents? "That's ... What am I supposed to do?"

"There is little to do," Genevieve replies. "You'll have to accommodate yourself, as I have. It's not so bad, when you get used to it. Your key must be at the reception."

"I have a key?" That's a little strange, too. After giving her a hesitant look, he moves towards the desk and picks up his key. "What about ... Food? And clothes? And hairspray?" He can't imagine his hair not looking perfect.

"This is a hotel, and so you can get everything from room service," she replies with an encouraging smile. "It's a bit odd, as you don't seem people, or a bill, ever, but...." she shrugs. "There's little to do about it, truly."

It does seem odd. But Link likes her enough to trust her, and figures if something happens he can go to her.

"I'm Link, by the way. Link Larkin." Of course, it would help to know who she is. So he smiles back and holds out his hand.

She gives him a radiant smile, and after looking at his hand with a second's hesitation, places hers in his - handshakes aren't all that common in 1950's France, though she's gotten use to them.

"Geneviève Émery," she replies with a pleasant smile. Of course, she pronounces her name in French, not the way most people at the Hotel do, that terrible Jenneveeve that doesn't even sound like her name.

It's definitely not the way anyone would say anything in Baltimore, that's for sure.

"Nice to meet you ... Er, Geneviève." He makes his best attempt at saying it the way she did.

Alright, never mind. That's even worse. "And you, Link," she replies, very friendly. "Hm. If you're not at ease, you can call me Jenneveeve," she says with a bit of a smile. "It's what most people call me here."

"Oh, no, I like the way you say it." He smiles a little. "I'll practice it."
