Christmas has come and gone.
The tree, magically introduced as it was, remains, lush and green and trimmed to the nines. And beneath it, now long neglected, remains one gift.
It is painstakingly wrapped and really quite beautiful. Instead of heavy paper, it is wrapped in tissue paper, blue and tied with a dark blue ribbon. It could have been ornamented with lace or other designs, but the fact that it was not speaks to the modest nature of the person who wrapped it.
The exterior gives no hint as to what it contains, but then again, the sad truth is that this gift will likely never be opened.
The label, if one were to look, reads John Smith.
