Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune...

Geoffrey had not slept well last night. The couch in the storage room wasn't exactly built for comfort though, was it? No, it was built to look pretty for actors to sit on onstage and say lines, not to sleep on. As a reflex, he grabbed Oliver, who'd become a sort of a makeshift stress ball for him. He stretched and groaned, shoving a hand through ( Read more... )

Riley frowns a bit, eyeing the newcomer. "Hey, man, are you okay?"

He gets that arriving here is a little... disconcerting, but this guy seems a little bit more upset by it than most.

"Noooo, very much not okay. I need to get back to my play -- I'm directing Macbeth and they desperately need me there. Tell me how to get back to New Burbage."

"I'm sorry. I'm not sure yet where this hotel is, let alone New Burbage," Riley says, not unkindly. "I know it's a little strange. I wish I could tell you there was a rational explanation for it, but I'm still trying to figure out what it is. There's no easy way back to civilization, though."

"What do you mean 'no easy way back'? You sound like my shrink.' Geoffrey sighed and rubbed his hands over his face, "Aaaugh. New Burbage is in Ontario. We've got a big festival every year? It's okay, no one in Canada remembers it's there either."

Riley shrugs. "Never heard of it, sorry. I'm from California. Well, Iowa, originally, but I don't really pay attention to what plays and what festivals are going on where."

He takes a deep breath. "As for there being no easy way back, I mean there's no cars, or any other vehicles around. I've walked up and down the beach and haven't come across any roads or any other signs of civilization. So we're out in the middle of nowhere."

"I can't be here! I have to be -- directing! I need to go do my play!" Geoffrey flailed his arms, then went back to pulling at his hair and pacing. "There isn't a -- a bus or something, maybe?"

Riley shakes his head. "No, no buses that I can see. There's no roads, there's no tracks. I'm still not sure how we even got here in the first place."

He watches Geoffrey. "I'm trying to figure out a way back home. If we can get to California- or, anywhere really, that isn't here- we can get everyone else back to where they belong too. But panicking and getting all worked up about it isn't going to help. Just take a deep breath and try to calm down."

"I'm an actor, this is what I do. I overdramatize." He flailed again, pacing more rapidly. "I have a production to run -- God only knows what they're doing to it while I'm gone. They have no director! Henry's probably running the show while I'm gone. He'll ruin it, I know he will." Geoffrey stopped, "I'm sorry, you said something and it went out of my head. Oh -- calm down, right."

Riley shakes his head. "It can't be that bad. But even if it is, practically panicking isn't going to help."

"Oh, you've not seen me panic properly yet. This is just pre-panicking."

"Well, don't. Panicking isn't going to do any good, neither is pre-panicking. Just take a deep breath and try to relax."

Geoffrey sat on the ground and tried to breathe, "Right, of course. Breathing. I'm perfectly capable of being calm."

Riley crouches down beside him. "Of course you are. Deep breath. There's nothing to worry about. We'll get out of here, and everything will be fine."

"Right, well how long have you been here, that you're so sure we're going to get out?"

"Only a couple days," Riley replies. "But if there's a way in, then there's a way out again. It's just a matter of time before one of us stumbles across it."

"So exactly how many people are here?" Geoffrey asked, wondering if there was anyone else from New Burbage.
