You need to ask?

*grins brightly* Oh, I know I don't have to ask you. I've been feeling nostalgic all day, thought I'd correct it.

Can you believe that there are British citizens in this very hotel who don't know how to play? ...Granted, I don't know if this me can play well but still.

Nothing wrong with that in my opinion.

...There are what?!

Not at all. Quite healthy, I think.

I know and two of them are my very own companions. I'm a bit ashamed. They'll catch on quickly enough though if they decide to be bold and play rather than watch.

You own comp-I mean Nyssa and Turlough...well they're not from Earth...but really even they know the basics...

Jack and Ianto. Ianto I picked up here, and really, I expected a bright lad like HIM to know cricket.

Nyssa and Turlough are both in. We'll have to work with Nyssa at least, but she's brilliant. She'll catch on and even if she's not any good it'll be fun. Turlough probably played some at that school.

My companions though? Human. British. FROM EARTH. And they DON'T KNOW CRICKET.

...Well. Jack's American. But he's based in Cardiff which is in Britain...

Nyssa'll be fine, I'll look after her and I've spent some time teaching Turlough the basics before.

I think you need to choose your companions a little more wisely in future Doctor *winks*

Jack should know something...

*laughs and grins* Perhaps I ought to have an application system.

Shouldn't he? YEARS and YEARS in Cardiff. *grumbles*

We'll have to decide teams. And having been you and played cricket as you? You're on my team. We've got Harriet Jones too. And Susan.

Application system? When all our companions generally seem to be stowaways?

*raises eyebrow*

*laughs* That's fine by me. Susan's interested? Wonderful!

I actually haven't had any stowaways. I chose Rose and from there she convinced me to take on others. Adam was a mistake, but Jack is resourceful and clever.

She is. I told her we'd teach her. You want to go for technique? I can go for rules and regulations.

I've never been able to pick my companions...though I wouldn't give them up for anything.

That's fine.

I know you wouldn't. They're all so...capable. Adric, and Nyssa, and Tegan, and Turlough...Those were good years.

Wonderful then.

Mmmm, I'm enjoying them so far.

...still wish I could have saved Adric...

Keep at it, they're all fantastic. *pause* Where in Time are you from anyways?

...*moves a hand to his shoulder* I know.

Just after that business on Frontios.

One question, it does get easier doesn't it? The guilt and the grief that is...

The grief fades. We never get over it, we never get over anything, but it's manageable. The guilt won't ever go. You'll see him and you'll watch it over and over when things go wrong, when there's danger for you and your companions.

It makes you stronger.
