Thea runs into the main room, a frantic flurry of skirts and pigtails. She's wide-eyed, trembling, and a little pale, and pauses for breath before announcing in a hushed voice:

"A... Thea, did you say baby? Thea! IS ILSE HAVING HER BABY?"

"NO!" Thea gave a furious shake of her head. "She had her baby!!"

Wendla gasped. "She-- the baby? She had her baby? Where is she? Is she alright?"

Thea just grabs Wendla's hand and tugs it, wordlessly jabbing her finger in the direction of Ilse's room.

Wendla dashes to Ilse's room, then, dragging Thea with her. "Ilse--! ILSE!"

Ilse is sitting up in bed, holding the baby in question, and looks up toward the doorway.

"...Wendla?"

[graspingpearls]

"Ilse! And... and a baby-- Oh, Ilse! Are you alright? What happened? Why didn't you call me? Oh, congratulations. I'm so happy..."

There may be a few tears. Or there may not. A trick of the light, perhaps. But she is happy, because finally, something's turned out right.

"I'm fine, Wendla." Ilse blinks owlishly at her. It's clear she's exhausted and possibly not all there (but then, is she ever?). "Both of us are -- come see him, he's sleeping..."

Thea hovers behind Wendla, wringing her hands and staring at the baby as if it's something completely alien.

"Ilse, I don't know--"

Being happy about the baby and actually going near the baby? Those are two entirely different things, and Wendla's not sure she'll be able to get too close to the baby without bursting into tears.

"Please?" Ilse notes Thea's expression with vague amusement. "He won't bite."

Wendla takes a few steps closer to the baby. "He's... so small..."
