Anyone French on this ship?

Of course, he'd be willing to talk to anyone, but he's lonely for someone from home. He'd even talk to his cousin, who is just about the only person he's spoken to so far, except for an odd little Japanese man. As an enticement, Armand has raided the "galley" for tea, lemonade, cut up fresh fruit and pound cake. There's even a bottle of brandy

Combeferre is passing through and nods politely at the man seated there.

Armand nods and smiles.

"I am not interrupting, I hope."

[armand_st_just_]

"No... would you like something?"

[ferrefriend]

"I was simply passing through in search of tea and perhaps a snack. I would offer to get you something, but you appear well enough supplied."

[armand_st_just_]

"This is for other people, like yourself. I wanted to meet people."

[ferrefriend]

"Then I would be delighted to partake in your generosity." He gives a small bow. "Matthieu Combeferre, monsieur. A pleasure to meet you."

[armand_st_just_]

Armand stands and bows. "Armand St. Just. There's tea and cake, and fruit."

[ferrefriend]

Combeferre gives a laugh, giving only a small start at the name. "Everything I could ask for then, Citoyen St. Just. Merci."

[armand_st_just_]

"Are all the Frenchman here... Republicans?"

[ferrefriend]

He replies with a perfectly deadpan tone. "Non. There are vampires as well."

[armand_st_just_]

"Oh, and queens, too." He'd almost forgotten about meeting Antoinette, who'd been much nicer to him than his own cousin had been. He pours some tea and points to the condiments.

Combeferre has acquired enough 'modern' slang for this to quite amuse him. "Yes, there are. Though some may not appreciate being referred to as such."

[armand_st_just_]

Armand, not being acquainted with modern slang. "Oh, she seemed to appreciate it, poor thing."

[ferrefriend]

"Is she suffering very much here? I have not seen much of her at all."

[armand_st_just_]

"She's not happy, but there must be something to be said for not being dead or in want. This ship isn't a palace, but no one is in need. I haven't seen her since that first day."
