Follow the man, follow the man...

There is a very disconcerted-looking man leaning against the railing. Wearing a bulky, oversized sweatshirt with the hood pulled up, his hands shoved deep into his pockets. He's a lot younger than he looks ( Read more... )

And here's a gaping April to stare at him.

In utter shock.

Oh, la. He probably heard that she'd died. Most of Alphabet City did, though she doesn't know it.

Luther blinks and does a double take. What the...?

"April?"

He remembers her. Of course.

Of course. They shared a box for a month when she first got to the city. He's the one who showed her the ropes of being a sidewalker.

"Hey, Cowboy." she says, unsure of really how to react.

"You..."

There's a long pause as he considers how to phrase this.

"I heard you died, sweetheart."

So much for tact.

She shifts uncomfortably, rubbing at her arms a little.

"Um... yeah. I did." Somehow he brings out her southern belle, and that "I" sounded more like "Ah".

Luther gives her a funny look that means he's trying to figure out why he's seeing her here if she's dead, and not coming up with any answers.

She shrugs a little, attempting a smile. "Don't ask, I'm not sure. I, um... I saw Roger and Mark, a little while ago."

"Ah. Okay."

Still looking very weirded out. Dead girls (even old friends) and ships where there shouldn't be any... He can probably be forgiven for being like this.

He wants to ask if she's been okay, but that seems a stupid question. She was dead.

Arm rubbing is definately going on. She sortof wanting something... but she always did hate asking Luther for her shit.

Anyway, that was how everything had gotten fucked up in the first place, and he probably didn't have anything on him, anyway.

He notices. He's used to noticing those sort of things, because he kind of has to. And he tilts his head to one side, frowning at her a little.

"You need something?" he asks gently. He does have some stuff on him, actually - after all, he'd just walked here off the street, so... Where he's going to get more, when he runs out, is another matter, and one he's not going to think about right now.

"I..." April rubs her arm a little harder and bites her lip. "I dunno if I should." she says quietly.

But she really really wants some.

"You look like you need it."

He pulls one hand out of his pocket, and a little bag of smack is dangling from his fingers.

She's hugging herself now, trying to stop herself from reaching out and snatching it.

"Don't got any of my shit." she mumbles. "'M dead, remember?"

Ah, the grammar of living on the streets...

"Right." He tucks it into the palm of his hand, but doesn't put it back in his pocket. He glances around slowly, with a faintly sardonic smile. "And you can't get it around here, I guess?"

He's got stuff, but he doesn't share. Even with April. He's not stupid.

"Not that I know of." April's trying not to watch his hand. She knows he's got his own stuff, but sharing needles was probably what got her into her problems... anyway, if she's still sick, even though she's dead, she doesn't want Luther to get it. "I mean, I'm sure there's an infirmiry, but how're we gonna lift needles and shit from there?"

Luther gives her a kind of teasing, half-hearted smile.

"Since when do you give up just 'cause something's a little difficult?"
