*Somewhere in the main room of the Mansion, a beautiful girl is dancing. Her grace is remarkable, and her dancing is beautiful, but both those qualities are slightly dminished by the faintest wince whenever she puts her weight on her left foot. But most people would hardly notice that, for it is difficult not to be entranced by her dancing. In one ( Read more... )

Ever the doctor, Henry notices immediately the wince and studies her movements carefully before realizing the problem must stem from her foot. He is entranced indeed, for the girl is beautiful and a wonderful dancer, but his professionalism, as usual, wins through.

"Miss. You oughtn't dance on a bad foot."

But, Sir, I must dance. I am a dancer.

"And very good at your art, but you won't be dancing for long if you keep up like this. You'll hurt your ankle beyond repair, and then where would you be?" Henry points out.

"I am a doctor. Would you let me look at it?"

*she stops dancing to listen, and she starts to seem worried. But she remains hesitant* You won't...hurt it more or not let me dance anymore?

"It might hurt a bit depending on what's wrong with it." The doctor admits. "And if it's broken or the like you might not be able to dance for a few weeks, but it won't be forever. If you don't let me fix it, it might well be forever."

"Tell you what," He offers. "Let me look at it and see what's wrong. After that I will tell you what I can do to help you, and how long you won't be able to dance for. You can decide from there."

Henry nods as well and gestures to a chair, pulling a foot rest to it for himself. "Sit down and let me see your foot please."

*she sits down gingerly, pulling her skirt up to bare her foot (she goes barefoot generally) which she puts on the foot rest hesitantly*

"Thank you." He will be gentle in inspecting her ankle, for he is kind by nature and never wishes to cause pain if he can help it. "How long have you been dancing, Miss?" It may seem like polite conversation, but the doctor is trying to discover what might have happened to cause the pain.

*to find out the cause of the pain, he'll need to ask in a completely different direction...* All my life. It's in my blod.

"Did you by any chance miss a step or the like recently? Slip and fall, something of the sort that might have hurt it?"

*slightly indignently, as though the question is just slightly insulting* I've never missed a step or fallen while dancing.

The doctor had not meant to insult in the least. He had been to many a ballet in his time and had seen some of the greatest dancers of the day miss a step and hurt themselves. "Have you fallen outside of dancing then? Fallen down a flight of stairs, anything?"

*She is reminded of an unpleasent experience* I...I fainted once.

He looks concerned at that. "Do you remember why?"

*there's a brief pause* Because I found that Phoebus wasn't dead.
