This is not a new arrival to make note of her unusual appearance or unexpected presence. She merely dusts herself off, folds her wings across her back, and brushes her hair out of her eyes. "You're ridiculously far away from anywhere," she says, cheerfully. "I might as well have been flying to Ysral ( Read more... )

She grins. "I'd like to be shown, yes, and also taught what soda is."

"Come on, then," he says, heading for the kitchen. Once they arrive, he hands over a can of soda. "Try this. It's a kind of drink an' it's all fizzy."

Ariel follows him obediently. "Is this your house, or are you a guest as well?" she asks. When she receives the can of soda, she looks at it with curious amusement and taps the top of it against the counter. "How does it open?"

"Whose is it, then? Or does it belong to no one?"

She pulls skeptically at the tag, and does manage eventually to get it open, splashing herself with some soda in the process. She takes a cautious drink, then another, long and deep. "How do they pour it in this?"

"'m not sure yet. I don't think it belongs to anyone in partic'lar."

He contemplates that question for a moment. "I think it has somethin' to do with machines an' factories, 'cause they have nozzles that pour the drinks into the cans. We went on a field trip in school once."

"It's a shelter, then?" She cranes her neck and looks around. "It's large, for one, and rich. It must have been built by huge tribes."

Ariel takes another long drink from the can, and scrunches up her face as the bubbles go up her nose. "It tickles," she explains. "What are factories?"

"Somethin' like that. 've heard you can get pretty much anything you want, here."

"It's great, isn't it? And -- factories are places where a lot of people worked to make stuff. They get paid to work there."

"Oh, really? What sort of things?"

She laughs. "I can't remember liking anything much better. And they make this in factories? I don't think we have them in Samaria. We certainly don't in Monteverde."

"I dunno. But I've heard there's a place called the plothole where you can get pretty much anythin' you want from -- although it sometimes likes t' play tricks on you."

He grabs one for himself, opening the top. "Where's Samaria and Monteverde? All I know is that they have this stuff all over the planet. Even Russia."

"What kind of tricks can a place play?"

She watches with interest, noting especially the way that he doesn't spill on himself. "Samaria is-- Samaria. The world. Monteverde is my home. I lead the Host there."
