While out on a walk, Cywyllog managed to find her way to the Mansion all by herself. She'd heard about the explosion, of course, so seeing it back in once piece as if nothing happened is rather curious ( Read more... )

Fletcher is sitting on a piece of the front lawn, a bound anthology of anthropological literature on his lap.

He looks up and smiles at Cywyllog, a little shyly. "Hey," he says, "Need help finding anything?"

She starts a little, pulled out of her reverie by the sound of the voice, but smiles back.

"No, I was just looking around, not for anything in particular. I am still quite new here."

"Oh. Okay," and yes, that's probably a little bit of the note of the awkward seventeen year old confronted with a very pretty woman, "I'm new too. Sort of."

He puts the book aside and stands up. "I'm Fletcher Neihart."

"Lady Cywyllog." She holds out a hand to him. "It is a pleasure to meet you, sir."

Fletcher shakes her hand, grinning a bit sheepishly. "Ditto. I mean, likewise."

She tilts her head at him curiously. Shaking hadn't been expected and she finds it faintly amusing.

"You have not been here long yourself, you said? Where is it you came from?"

Shaking is what we do in the future!

"It's a long story," he says, "I live on my family's ship, Finity's End, and we'd stopped off at Alidade Station for a minor resupply..."

"...And I kind of ended up here."

"I was just wandering through the castle when the same thing happened to me." She smiles sympathetically. "A ship, though. Are you a sailor?"

"A castle? Wow. I mean - I guess a few people here seem to - but wow."

He blushes fiercely. "I - I'm just a kid, really. I mean, I help in the kitchens, and with the clothes. Of course, everyone does that, but I do it too, and I'm learning the medical systems."

"Are you?" She brightens a little, perhaps also a little impressed. "The healing arts are a difficult course of study. You must be very dedicated."

Fletcher's always thought he is, frankly. Dedicated is pretty much the primary thing he's spent most of his adolescence working very hard to be.

He's not really used to people noticing right off, which explains the suddenly nuclear quality of the blush.

"Thanks," he says, "It's interesting. I like doing it a lot."

"And they will no doubt be useful skills."

She furrows her brow. "Are you all right?"
