Introduction

Enter a young man; almost elvish in looks, tall and bright-eyed with a certain air of royalty about him. He is smiling, but if any should look him in the eye they'll notice a deep anger and sadness he tries to keep hidden.

Typist: Whee, another Tolkien-character! Anárion, son of Elendil and younger brother of Isildur. Snagged from after the Last ( Read more... )

Long since used to the regular arrival of new people, Anárion's presence doesn't really surprise her all that much. However... something about him makes her stop, frown and approach him. She starts off her greeting in Sindarin initially, then corrects and repeats herself.

"Are you all right? Are you lost?"

He is pleasantly surprised by her using elvish -- he has known a time when too few people did, and he still believes the Faithful should be honored, so he bows to her.

"Lost, yes, so it seems. I do not know this place. Could you tell me where I am?"

She's surprised at the bow... at first. But you don't interact with people and not pick up some of their manners, so while it's not as graceful as his, she curtsies back.

"This place is called The Mansion, though where -exactly- it is, no one knows. Might I help you find your way around... mr...."

She trails off, clearly fishing for a name.

A smile flickers about his lips at her manners, and he nods approvingly. "Anárion son of Elendil. Your name, young lady, is?"

Her face shows her surprise as her mouth is nothing more than an "Oh!" shape at first.

"But... then you are Isildur's brother, aren't you?"

And she blinks a few times before continuing.

"Pardon my poor manners... My name is Hermione. A pleasure to meet you, I'm sure!"

"As a matter of fact, yes, I am. Nothing is wrong with your manners, and I should hope it is a pleasure. It is a pleasure to meet you, at any rate." Yes, he just winked at Hermione.

"Now... may I ask where you learned Eldarin?"

She's used to winking, Isildur's done it more than once... She grins lopsidedly.

"A good friend of mine taught me... Elrohir, son of Elrond. And it's quite useful at work, as more than half the manuscripts are in Tengwar."

The first sentence was in English, the second in Eldarin.

Must run in the family, then... but it is kind of hard to ignore that Anon might actually be flirting a little.

"A young lady of impeccable manners, knowledgable in the Noble Tongue, an Elf-friend..." He bows low and smiles up at her. "It is a pleasure to meet you."

She blinks, then blushes faintly.

"Errmm... uhhh..."

He straightens and winks at her again.

"Well, lady Hermione, will you help me find my way around?" He holds out a hand to her.

Glad to have the subject of conversation return to something she's comfortable with, she smiles again.

"I don't know if I deserve the title 'Lady', but it shall be my pleasure to help you find your way around... sir."

She looks at the hand being held out to her for a moment, not entirely sure what to do. "Is it appropriate to hold hands with someone you are not related to?" Her own indecision is probably visible on her face.

And that smile is promptly returned - but Anárion shakes his head. "If you insist on using any title it should be 'king' - but neither of us wants that, I believe. To you it is Anárion, lady Hermione - you, on the other hand, I believe, do deserve to be called a lady. Any of the Elf-friends does, and more so if they are as kind, helpful, and beautiful."

Noticing her hesitation he makes that decision and takes her hand, but leaves Hermione the opportunity to retreat.

Resigning herself to having a permanent case of "tomato head" around Anárion, she tries to change his mind one more time...

"You really don't -have- to, you know. I'm just a plain witch. Though I thank you for the compliment that I am helpful."

Deciding that holding someone's hand is fairly innocent, she doesn't retreat... yet. The rest of her behaviour, while friendly, can best be described as cautious.

"Far from plain, and what you call a compliment is only the truth, Lady Hermione."

Of course he notices that, and will try his best to put her at ease . While they walk he jests and jokes, is attentive and curious, still holding her hand, but also still giving her the option to withdraw.

She enjoys the light-hearted banter back and forth very much, and is put much at ease by Anárion's attitude. However, somewhere during their walk, she -does- remove her hand from his, and switches to something a bit more formal: her hand hooked into his arm at the elbow.

"What would you like to learn about first?"
