*Mina appears nervous, and touches the crucifix that Arthur gave her often, as though to reassure herself that it is there. When she speaks, her voice is quiet

*she realizes immediatly that he is a vampire, and so she shudders, holding the crucifix even more tightly. Her voice is quiet* Could one who is burned by it be glad to see another respecting the one it represents? *the words nearly choke her with the memory of the Consecrated Host burning her forehead, but she says them nevertheless.*
*takes the crucifix from her grasp gently and kisses it before returning it to her* Christ the Lord does me no harm, mademoiselle. I have always been a proud Christian. But I forget myself. *bows a little* Andre Le Brel, at your service.
*she looks at his hand, shocked at the fact that it remains unburned. Ironically, she has been holding the crucifix so tightly that it's shape can be seen on her palm. She looks at him square in the face, though she his clearly terrified. She drops the crucifix, and her hands twist together compulsivly. She whispers, to herself rather than him* I have no defense anymore.
*she picks up the crucifix and puts it back on, completely ignoring everything he is saying. Her voice is deceptivly calm and cold; any moment she could dissolve into tears* Mr. Andre Le Brel, can you tell me why it is that you are unaffected by things that I know from experience can burn the skin of a vampire? *her voice is slightly hysterical* And if there is any defense against such beings as you, or if I might as well bare my neck now and get it over with, as one of the vampires in this accursed place will end up biting me eventually?
Come, cherie. Sit, and we will talk. *firmly leads her to a seat before she tries to faint*

Metal, crucifixes and garlic do me no harm, though I find too much garlic unpleasant to eat, as might anyone of good culinary taste. However, I am vulnerable to sunlight, and can be harmed by weapons of wood. I can cross running water, but I have no reflection in mirrors, and I cannot cross a threshold without invitation.
However, as to your confusion, my understanding is that there are different types of vampires here. My...lover, for instance, seems to follow a different set of rules, and has in fact sworn never to drink human blood. For some reason, her kind can survive without it.
*she nods, though she doesn't look at him, mentally taking note of this information as best she can. Having something to do with her mind always calms her.* Your lover...does she then drink animal blood?
I believe [Read, typist has had a mental blank] she abstains entirely. I've never quite understood... As I said, we are different in many ways. I can get by on animal blood, though it doesn't replenish my strength as well as human. She, though, can get by without blood entirely.

Now, am I to play guessing games, mademoiselle? Perhaps you are called Charlotte. No no, that's not right. Mercedes? No...
