Hey there, I'm Scout. How d'you do? Atticus says I should always be p'lite 'n introduce m'self when I'm meetin' new people. 'N Atticus always knows best 'bout these sorta things anyway.
I live in Maycomb County, Alabama, with my pa, Atticus (he's a lawyer 'n he's been on the state legislature for 's long as I can remember), my brother Jem, and Calpurnia, 'n I'm eight-years-old. My real name is Jean Louise Finch, but no one calls me that 'less I'm in trouble, so ever'one just calls me Scout. 'S a sorta stuffy name, 'n I don't really like bein' called it. I guess 's not as bad as my big brother Jem's name. He's Jeremy Atticus Finch. And my friend Dill's named Charles Baker Harris - his name's bigger'n he is! I ain't makin' fun of him though, he's a tiny li'l thing, but his 'magination more'n makes up for it.
Ever'one tells me I oughtta wear dresses and girly things like that, but 'm used to wearin' overalls and stuff. M' aunt used ta try 'n boss me around straight into a dress, but I think she doesn' mind too much now.
Anyways, I duno what else ta say, so I guess 'm done...
