Just off the ship

Hullo everyone. My name is Mary Lennox and I am ten years old. Seeing as how I have just arrived at Misselthwaite Manor, there seems to be nothing else to do but correspond with everyone here. My parents both died in India, and now I have been shipped off to England. It is quite dull here, actually. The house is very big and quite eerie. Sometimes, at night, I think I hear someone crying! My maid-Martha-insists that it is just the wind. She calls it 'wuthering' that sound, but I don't believe her. Things are very strange here. I haven't even seen my Uncle, Mr.Archibald Craven! Oh, and I am from the book "The Secret Garden" by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

I thought I would write to you because there is nothing else to do here in wintry England, although Martha said she would show me the gardens tomorrow...I wonder what that will be like...I never had any gardens in India...
