Khary likes to do things just to mess with people. Sitting down on any furniture in the main room, or at the island in the kitchen, will result in a rather sudden and alarming change. Khardeen may not be entirely sure what he was doing - it was more just tweaking things around, playing some games, he probably intended some simple young children ( ( Read more... )

Here she is. The 'it' girl. The annoying girl, who has the grades, the looks, the boys, the fitness, the gossip, and who always knows the answer to the teacher's questions.

She's sitting on the porch, reading Roland Barthes's Mythologies, a book that nobody in her year has read. Why? Because she's already done all the mandatory reading, and she was ready for the next step. Even if Barthes won't be on her curriculum for another 10 years.

Fingon is currently dressed to the nines, sweater neatly pressed and collar turned over it, khakis clearly creased and spotless, hair pulled back in the ponytail that would look stupid on anyone else and you just have to hate him for pulling it off. That and being football captain without even having to pull the usual strings but actually getting in on talent.

He crouches next to Artanis with a bit of a grin. "Hey, still reading?"

She looks over, vaguely unimpressed, but friendly, like she is with just about everyone.

"Well, I have a book on my lap, I would suppose I am, don't you think?"

"Yeah, but you've been reading all afternoon, don't you want to do something new and different? The new frozen yogurt place is supposed to be really good..."

She chuckles, a little. "And how many girls did you take there since it opened, Findekano?"

Her jab is good-natured, but still.

He colors bright red. "Artanis! I don't - I haven't - I am not that kind of man."

She chuckles, heavily. "You're sixteen," or something like that, "we're still kids, in case you didn't notice."

Even if she's already reading adult books, ha. (University books, we should say, not r-rated books. She's too much of a goodie-two-shoe for the other sort of adult books.)

Oh, of course. We did not think so. He colors more. Fingon likes to think he is entirely grown up. "All right, point taken, Artanis, the question stands."

She smiles a little. "Alright. I suppose Roland won't mind if I make him wait a little."

He might be a bit on the overconfident side, but she does like Findekano. He's always sweet to her.

He frowns, just a little. "Who won't mind?" A little, just a touch, suspicious.

But he is pleased!

"Roland. You never heard of him? He's really, really smart."

She may be enjoying this a little too much.

Fingon frowns a little more deeply. "I don't recognize the name. What kind of stuff does he do?" Oh, Galie, you are awful.

She smiles, a little. "He's very brainy. I think he qualifies as a philosopher."

She's holding the book in plain view, though. She might be just waiting to see if he'll catch on.

It takes him a second, but he looks at the book, reads the author, and blushes. Quite a bit.

"--Artanis! You were misleading me on purpose!"

She laughs, brightly. "It was too hard to resist. Roland's been dead a few decades, Kano. I think you have nothing to worry about from him."

He gives her a little scowl, and it's a little stiffly that he says, "Well, are you still interested in coming with me?"
