He catches that implication, but is going to pretend he didn't. It bothers him, a little, but lesser people never understand the necessities of trickery. Especially this brother.

Caranthir isn't going to pretend he's entirely happy to see the brother, though it's never been that way between them. They know where they stand, they know who the other is, and they've always managed, somehow.
Bottom line is that Curufin is a brother, one way or other. End of story.
