Anyone happening to be outside will most likely notice this.  It would be amazingly hard not to notice that there is a dragon flying over the mansion. It is black, sleek and well over a hundred feet long, with an even larger wingspan. But if one can get over the immediate shock of seeing such a specimen then it might also be noticed that there is a ( Read more... )

Cimorene doesn't quite run, but she does hurry - she saw the dragon fly over, but as she lives a little away from the Mansion, it takes her a few moments to catch up.

Unfortunately, her face falls, just a bit, when she comes up on them. It's almost as if she was expecting someone, only to find someone else when allowed a closer look. But she manages, politely, "Are you two lost, then?" She has to be a bit of a shock herself, this tall woman with braided hair who doesn't fit their time at all, though she's pregnant enough she's not wearing her usual blue jeans now.

For a moment Laurence thinks she might be a female member of the Aerial Corps. She has that no nonsense look to her and her choice of clothing and hairstyle only help his assumption. The only thing missing is her own dragon.

"Yes," they both answer at almost the same time.

She sighs. "Unfortunately, I don't know how much help I'll be, other than giving you a list of places you're both not. Sorry." She tilts her head. "You don't look like you're from the Mountains of Morning." This last is addressed to Temeraire.

"I am a Celestial Dragon," he says, standing still as Laurence climbs down from the harness. "My kind come from China. Where are the Mountains of Morning? They might be a part of China, you know, since it is such a large place."

She sighs. "Not that I've ever heard of. But I think I'm the only person in the place from anywhere near them, as no one's ever heard of where I come from, as far as I know. But my husband is Welsh, if that means anything to you."

Temeraire nods. "We know where that is." He gestures to Laurence. "I was hatched on board Laurence's ship and he is from England."

"Ah. Lots of people from England around, though maybe not from your time."

"Oh? When are they from? We are from 1807."

[Damn, you made me settle on a canon point to come from.]

"You'll have to ask, I'm afraid; their dating system mystifies me. Percy's from around the time of King Arthur, if that helps at all."

Oops. ^_^;;

Laurence, who has been unobtrusively doing things in the background for most of this conversation, finally speaks up. Even if it really isn't to contribute anything useful. "King Arthur?"

She glances at him. "Yeah. He's not around, that I'm aware of, but his wife is."

"Guinevere? Is this some sort of a joke?" It isn't funny if it is.

She sighs. "No. Also, you're going to get people freaking out at you," she adds to Temeraire. "Lots of people didn't believe me, about dragons in general."

"What don't they believe about dragons?"

"That they exist, some of the idiots."

He looks puzzled in a draconian way. "Of course I exist."
